Page 12, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, March 30, 1983 Bowling Tournament a success The first Bowling Tournament of the year was held on Saturday, March 19th and Sunday March 20th. The event was sponsored by the Terrace Bay Recreation Committee and 28 people participated in the open event. The objective of the tourna- ment was to encourage participation therefore no handicap was used. Saturday Bowling was used to eliminate all but the 8 finalists in the "'A"' and the "B" divi- sions. In the "A" event Addey Daley' was challenging Deb Paw- lette and Gary Souliere pitted against Claude St. Amand for the right to advance to the "A"' Championship. The Safety Committee of painters and carpent- ers pooled their safety money to entertain their crews and ladies at a social evening at the Curling Club. Prior to the gals join- ing them the carpenters challenged the painters to a curling game and the carpenters came out on top. Dave Gunters rink of Bill Guiger, Jack Winters and Art Mecure won the Trophy, with Jack Wellings skipping the runners up including Sax Lundberg, Joe Marcella Sr., and Bill Kujbida (borrowed from the painters). Under the present zoning require- ments a motel is not a permitted use within an industrial zone. The present wooded area across from the shopping plaza is now zoned for commercial use. Council discussed at length the possibility of using such property for commercial develop- ment. Final reading was given to the by-law appointing Mrs. M. Simmer as Deputy Clerk-Treasurer. Plans were made at the March meeting of the Anglican Church Women to hold a bake sale at Chapple's Store. Order will be accepted for hot cross buns by calling Mrs. Jack Bryson or Mrs. Robert Ellacott. Minutes and _ financial reports were adopted as ready by Mrs. Inge Ella- cott and Mrs. Flora Bry- son. Mrs. Hazel Bailey presided. G.L. (Gordie) Mc- Cuaig, who began his service with the CPR in February of 1941, made his last run as baggage- man on the Canadian on March 22. The Schreiber High School Curling Club held the play off games for the 1970 school year. The McCuaig Trophy was won by Ted Brown's rink consisting of Ted Brown, skip, Lonnie Connelly, vice, Deborah Caccamo, third, and Jane Chopty, lead. The Caccamo Trophy was won by Ray Pit- kanen's rink consisting of Ray Pitkanen, skip, Joyce Cluett, vice, Glen Pitkanen, third, and Evelyn Lark, lead. On the *'B'" side it was. Linda Baxter against Louis Thibeault and Terry Edmonds against Harriet Andrews. All games in the semi- finals were very close and the results were as follows: Addey Daley defeated Deb Pawlette to advance to the "A" Championship and Claude St. Amand de- feated Gary Souliere to go on and meet Addey. In the "B'"' Division it was Terry Edmonds over Harriet Andrews and Louis Thibeault over Linda Baxter. The four finalists were then ready for the final match. The matches consisted of two games total pins. In the "'A" Division Addey Daley won the first game scoring a 223 point game and she also squeaked by in the second game over Claude by 4 points. Addey Daley was de- clared the "A" Division Winner. In_ the "B"' finals Louis Thibeault won both his games by bowl- ing games of 220 and 267.
