The meeting opened with the Chairman, Alex Dan- eff, requesting a period of silence in respect of Gordon Waghorn, form- er Reeve of Nipigon and the first Chairman of the District Board. He was on the Board during the building of Pinewood Court and the conver- sion of Birchwood Ter- race. Mr. Waghorn's funeral was held in Nipi- gon on Saturday, Feb- ruary 19, 1983. The meeting dealt with a heavy agenda 'of sixteen resolutions. Operating accounts for the month of January were approved totall- ing $146,159.28. Six ap- plications for residence were approved, three for each Home. There are ten vacancies available in Birchwood Terrace and one in Pinewood Court, Applicants are not facing long waiting lists. The estimated oper- ating budget for the. period April 1, 1983 to March 31, 1984 totalling $1,880,300.00 and the estimated capital budget of $41,150.00 were ap- proved. This is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Community and Social Services. From the donations account, Final Touch was the successful bid- der for drapes totalling $719.76. The Board ap- proved an increase of 5S per cent in the resident- ial per diem rate from $29.00 per day to $30.45. This is effective April 1, 1983. All full pay residents will be informed of this change. Rent increases of S per cent were approved for the rental apartments at Birchwood Terrace. Two requests for leave of absence were approved as recommended by the Director of Nursing, Mrs. P. Flaherty. The: Administrator, M.J. Vibert, reported on the progress with the energy conservation im- provements at Birch- wood Terrace. It is pos- sible the improvements in insulating the north- ern exposure of the building will be done from the outside, rather than from the inside as originally proposed. The financial audit for 1982 has been completed and the reports have been forwarded to Board members and éach par- ticipating Municipal- ity. The next board meet- ing will be held in Pine- wood Court on March 25, 1983 followed by the Annual Meeting at 7:00 p.m. to which the parti- cipating Municipalities are invited to send a delegate.
