Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, March 2, 1983, page 3 Lake Superior Board of Education A meeting of The Lake Superior Board of Education was held on Monday, January 31, 1983 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Conference Room located at Marathon High School. Minutes of Meeting No. 1/83 held Janu- ary 17, 1983 were de- clared adopted. G. Armour conveyed to the Board (in Mr. Cheetham's absence) R. Cheetham's resignation as Co-Chairman of the Property and Mainten- ance Committee. G. Armour is to assume this position. A discussion was held regarding the status of arrangements for the in- stallation of dust collect- ors in the shops. The Committee agreed to meet briefly at the end of the Board Meeting to further. instruct I. Mc- Quarrie, Superintend- ent, of actions to be 'taken. The Board was in- formed that J. Nugent had resigned as Chair- man of the Finance Committee, J. Figlio- meni will assume this position. I. McQuarrie report- ed to the Board regard- jing the Mid-Year Spe- 'cial Education Review that he and G. Conrad, Teacher Diagnostician for the System, conduct- ed in the schools during January, 1983. This pro- ° cess will be repeated again in June of 1983. 'The Board was inform- ed that Mr. Bob Hodge, of Red Lake, recently spent a week in our Sys- tem to observe the Board's planning for and implementation, of Bill 82. Chairman M. Reid asked all trustees to indicate their plans in attending the Trustee Workshop scheduled for February 10-12, 1983 in Thunder Bay. Trustees were requested to con- tact M. Atkinson at the Board Office by Febru- ary 7, 1983, to confirm arrangements and reser- vations for same. The following deci- sions were made by the Board regarding the presentation requests by J. Vandergraaf, Presi- dent of Lake Superior Division, OSSTF: «" EL Tavyior's and -- J, Vandergraaf's appoint- ments as Organiza- tional Unit Coordinators at Lake Superior High School were amended to be effective November 9, 1982, e Rental payments by payroll deduction will be continued, ¢ The present procedure for the calculation of mid-month and month- end payroll deposits shall remain. Due to the involvement of con- tractual items with this procedure it could be- come a negotiable item at the end of this OSSTF contract period. The Board approved the 1983 memberships in the following Associa- tions / organizations: Northern Ontario School Trustees' Assoc. and OSTC/FOSTA $2,270; Ontario Separate School Trustees' Assoc. $200; L'association francaise des Conseils de 1'Ontar- io $200; Ontario Edu- cational Research Coun- cil $95.35; Ontario As- sociation for Curriculum Development $200. Total $2,965.35. The Board supported the Northern District School Area Board in its request to the Legisla- tion Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Edu- cation for a change in present legislation to al- low "the funding of stu- dents for board, lodging and transportation for attendance in private schools where the Board deems it beneficial." ii M.
