He said that as the Whitesand and Selem residents were not opposed to annexation and the Marathon residents were, he felt it was ap- propriate to only annex the area between Schrei- be and Rossport. The suggestion received lit- tle support at the Board table and when Father Delaney made a motion to annex only Kilraine Township, no other member was prepared to second it. Schreiber Trustee Don Burton said that he felt the Board needed more time to study the question, especially af- ter the Committee could not. come up with a consensus, and there was such strong object- ions from Marathon to the proposal. Terrace Bay Trustee Joan Nugent said that she strongly supported the annexation proposal and urged the Board to adopt it immediately. Chairman Mike Reid closed off the debate and put the Committee's Recommendation not to change the boundaries to a vote. The Recom- mendation was not ac- cepted by a vote of three For, eight Against, with three Abstentions. Manitouwadge Trustee George Bodak and Marathon Trustees Bob Cheetam and Pat Richardson voted to make no change, local Trustees Mike Reid, Jim Figliomeni, Gerry Ar- mour, Joan Nugent and Paul Cebrario voted against the recommen- dation, and Trustees Don Burton and Tim Delaney abstained. At this point the Marathon residents pre- sent in the audience an- grily stormed out of the meeting. One Marathon "cottager said, "'This is the result of a well or- ganized effort, we didn't have time to- organize anything and it's not fair." Several Marathon residents interviewed after the meeting made it clear that they were not happy with the deci- sion and intend to fight it. They said that they would be exploring the alternatives open to them. Trustee Joan Nu- gent, seconded by Trustee Father Tim Delaney, then moved that the Board proceed with the annexation. The motion was passed and a Committee con- sisting of Trustees Paul Cebrario, Gerry Armour and Andree Desilletes was set up to establish the formal boundaries. Lead Qt THE SYSTEM THAT STANDS ALONE.
