PAGE 1:2 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 17, 1979 © SCHREIBER PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE RECREATION COMPLEX UPDATE: We have received the pledge of Imperial 0il in the amount of $1,000.00, Beno Agencies donated $300.00, the bottle drive held on January 6 netted $366.80 much thanks to all who gave up their beer, and/or pop bottles. The canvassers are getting a good response from those con- tacted to date. It is this type of co-operation that is need- ed in order to reach our overall objectives. : The Complex received a big boost towards our goal on Monday January 8, 1979 when Flora Bryson, Marg Spillane, Hazel Bailey presented a cheque to Reeve Fischer, Clerk Aurel Gauthier and the building fund committee, in the amount of $8,468.48. They also donated $4,960.57 worth of concession equipment for the new complex. Our sincere thanks to the ladies for the much valued donations. Monies to date - PERSONAL $62,447.91; BINGOS $2,677.30; TOTAL CASH - $76,918.21. Pledges to come- $40,505.00; Payroll to come $7,200.00. BEAVER COLONY: We will be accepting registrations for the Beaver Colony until the end of January. The meetings are each Tuesday evening at 6345 p.m. in Holy Angels School. Our Group Commi t- tee has been formed and consists of: Harold Shack - Chairman; Pat Moore - Treasurer; Edythe Cosgrove - Secretary. Addi tional parental assistance is required throughout the year so the group committee will be contacting you at various times. CHIMO CLUB: Members of the Club executive met with Kay Heggie, Jackie Garwood of the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Ann Gi roux, Norm Norris of Schreiber Recreation Office. Discussion revolved around what were the important areas for the submission to the Elderly Persons Centre Act. Members of the executive and club will be working on the programs hap- pening now, to happen in the future, budget and five year pro- jection, history of club, with some general information. The Recreation office will assist as much and where possible. SEWING CLASSES (BASIC): Tuesday, January 17 at 7 p.m. in the Tower hall of the Schreiber Town Hall. This program will operate for eight wks. Muriel Walton is the instructor and will fill you all in on necessary materials during the first evening. SCHREIBER PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE: The 1979 recreation committee has been appointed by Council consisting of: Lorraine Huard, Doris Gauthier, Barbara Mc- Laughlin, Peter Speziale, Don Davey, |rene Borutski, Bill Collinson, Jr., Larry Davis. Meetings for the recreation committee are on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. The first Tuesday being the regular business meeting and the second meeting for a specific purpose. Members of the public are welcome at the regular meeting, if you wish to speak a letter must be sent to the recreation office so you can be on the agenda. Please have the requests in the Thursday prior to the regular Tuesday meeting. PAYROLL $11,793.00; * pain and tension. TOUCH FOR HEALTH: Are you interested in a weekend workshop in "Touch for 4 Health"? This workshop will be conducted by well qualified per. sons from Thunder Bay. The workshop will give information on a © practical guide to natural health using acupuncture,=touch, and ¢ massage to improve postural balance and reduce physi cal/mental Nutrition will play a part in the workshop if there are sufficient registrations. Please notify the rec- reation office of your interest. PARTICI PARK - FITNESS TRAIL 2 A grant has been received from the Ministry of Community and Social Services. up; cutting and limbing of the necessary logs for building of excercise stations. Work will proceed towards further devel- opment in the spring and summer. ~CROSS COUNTRY SKI CLINIC: Improve your skiing technique or learn how to ski on Feb. 2, 3 & & Anyone interested, register at the Schreiber Rec- reation office before January 29, 1979. The registration fee and information regarding the rental of equipment is included in the pamphlet which can be picked up at the recreation of- fice.
