CPP pension credits earned by a husband and wife during marriage may be divided equally between them if the marriage ends in divorce or annulment after January 1,1978.. Applications for retroactive benefits (i.e. up to 12 months) can now be made on behalf of a deceased person, in cases where a contributor qualified, but failed to apply, before death.
