JANUARY 18, 1978 TERRACE BAY NEWS 'PAGE 5 CURLING NEWS The teams of Rhea Beaulieu, Marj Liebrock, Janice Wilson, Georgina Caron and Marianne McDougall, Pat Fenton, Julie Randa, Norma Gusul played three games to decide the club's Northwestern representatives. The McDougall rink met the teams from Marathon (Carol Mel- ville, Florence Nutbrown, Betty McInnes, Ann Jellison) and Mahitouwadge (Bunny Sherman, Marilyn Osbourne, Lorraine Drozdawsky, Jean Rustan) in a double round robin for the North -western Zone Playdowns which was held in Ter --~race Bay Curling Club on 16th - 17th - 18th, December. The Sherman rink from Manitouwadge won the competition. Ida Romanuk and Donna Josus with much prac -tical help from Rhea Beaulieu prepared a de- licious chinese meal for the banquet at the Zone Playoffs. The team of Ann Latour, Mary Hale, Maria Hermes, and Dene Clancy who won the Senior Ladies' Zone Playoffs in Manitouwadge, now go on the District Northwestern in Dryden. Good luck, ladies! The kitchen work is finished and the new stove, fridge and dishes were really apprecia ~ted by everyone who worked in the kitchen during the holiday season. Afternoon curlers begin the second round on Wednesday the 18th of January. Curlers are needed for the Sweetheart Bon- speil. Grab your girl (or guy) and sign up. CHURCH NEWS: The Ladies Auxiliary to the Community Church held a meeting last week on Tuesday, January 10th. The meeting opened with a pray- er. The meeting was chaired by president, Joanne Moore. Minutes were read and the treas -urer's report given by Peggy Thompson. Many projects were discussed for 1978. The Community Church will hold the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 29th. A letter was received from the Winter Car- nival Committee, in regards to the ladies auxiliary participating this year. A discus- sion followed and it was agreed to put on a "Thrifty Fifty's' lunch and also to enter a float in the Parade. A Queen contestant will be chosen to represent the Community Church. Lunch was served by Joanne Moore and Cora Ropchan. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT: Larry and Marilyn West- lake (nee Benko) are pleased te announce the birth of their first born daughter, Melissa "§ Ann on January 8th in St. Elizabeth's hospi- tal, Hannibal, Missouri - weight 7 lbs. 12 ozs. Proud grandparents are John and Sadie 'Benko and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Westlake.
