Two teams entered this years competition and the winning rink was the Terrace Bay rink of Ann Latour Skip, Mary Hale third, Maria Hermes second and Dene Clancy lead. The Ter- race Bay team won two straight games. The Marathon rink under Skip Doris Arthurs of the host club, M. Chissamore third, 3 Frankie Johnston second and Edith Jordan lead made a fine showing in the first game with Ir Terrace -taking it with a 14-12 score. The ; second and final game the Terrace Bay, ladies came on strong with-a 12-2 victory. A lovely hot luncheon was served by the club's executive after the final game. The Latour rink now advance to the District Playdowns in Dryden later this month. INAUGURAL BOARD MEETING The Inaugural Meeting of The Lake Superior Board of Education was held in the Marathon High School library on the fifth of January at 19 00 with Trustees in full attendance. Mr. A.S. Gordon was elected Chairman of the Board and Mrs. G. Fairservice was elected Vice ~Chairman. Committee structure was established and members appointed for 1978. The meeting adjourned at 22 00. The regu- lar meeting of the Board will be held on Sat- urday, January 21st at 10 00 in the Marathon High School Library. STRATEGIC LAND USE PLAN FOR if NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO : i The Ministry of Natural Resources' SLUP Phase II report for Northwestern Ontario is still available for public discussion. The Phase II report "Proposed Policy" was released in September of 1977 in an effort to stimulate discussion of the policy objectives to be uti- lized by the Ministry in the preparation of the Strategic Land Use Plan. The report is the culmination of an extensive policy review within the Northwestern Region by both the Min -istry of Natural Resources and the general public, and presents the candidate policies as revised from the original document "Background Information and Approach to Policy" which was widely circulated in 1974 and 1975. In an effort to obtain additional public input, the deadline for responding to the po- licy objectives has been extended to January 31,1978. Continued page 3 ....
