PAGE 16 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 30, 1977 SCHREIBER PARKS AND RECREATION COLUMN To the citizens of Schreiber, my name is Norm Norris, recently hired Recreation Co- ordinator for the community.of Schreiber. I hail originally from Dryden,. Ontario where I received my elementary and secondary schooling. My education in recreation was received at Confederation College and I graduated in 1972; holding several part-time assignments with the City of Thunder Bay Parks and Recreation, St. Joseph's Hospital, and the Ontario Hospital. In July 1973 I went to Geraldton as Recrea- _ tion Director and remained there until I assumed the duties here November 7, 1977. My office is located upstairs in the Schrei -ber Municipal Building. For the past two weeks I have been busy meeting people and attending meetings of var- ious organizations. I encourage the people of the community to drop in and chat. : As time progresses you will see this col- umn on a weekly basis, however, for the next while it will be sporadic. PROPOSED CRAFT GROUP: Several crafts people with a variety of in- terests met for a second time at St. Martin School in Terrace Bay last Wednesday, evening, to form a craft group... A The group will meet again for Candlemaking in the basement hall of the Town office in Schreiber, on Wednesday, November 30, 1977 at 7:30 p.m. Persons interested in making candles for a hobby or Christmas should bring Parafin Wax, oil or Pam, cord for wicks, crayons or dye, moulds (milk cartons, cans, etc.), bowls spa- tula, pots or cans for melting, egg beater, tongs, sparkles, decorations or a combination of the above that you have at. home. This will be the first of many workshops some being one evening others longer. The group welcomes all persons interested in crafts. POSSIBLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURLING LEAGUE: ~ Elementary school students in Grades 7 & 8 are encouraged to sign their name, grade, age and school to the lists up around your school. If there is interest teams will be selected, with a schedule of games slated for January 1978, after school. Persons interested will pay a registration fee, once established, and will require the proper dress and equipment for games. The Curling Club executive and Recreation Department are spearheading this effort, to get curling back into the schools. Parents, your assistance will be greatly appreciated for supervision and could rely on your support if it is to be successful. NORTH SHORE HOCKEY : 'The Manitouwadge Midgets are in Schreiber to play on Saturday, December 3, 1977 at 3:30 p.m. ' The next home game will be a Peewee-Bantam series on Wednesday, December 14, 1977 at 7 p.m. with Terrace Bay the visitors.
