TERRACE BAY NEWS JULY 13, 1977 TERRACE BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT JULY 4 - 11, 1977: During the period July 4th to 11th, the Terrace Bay Police Department was called upon to investigate thirty-two occurrences. On July 4th, police investigated a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in the vicin- ity of the Aguasabon Falls Trailer Park. A motor vehicle driven by Elias Hynes of Aurora, Ontario was westbound and attempting a left turn into the trailer park and a vehicle driv- en by Peeter Ojavee struck this vehicle in the rear. Total damage to both vehicles has been estimated at approximately $4,500.00. Both drivers and a passenger in the Hynes vehicle were injured and received treatment at the McCausland Hospital. : One impaired driver was charged as he drove a heavy equipment crane from the construction site to a local drinking establishment. This driver was also charged with driving a vehicle while his licence was suspended. During this past week, six charges were laid under the Liquor Licence Act, one driver was charged with failing to produce insurance and two drivers charged with driving while disqualified. Police also laid two charges under the Narcotic Control Act when two people were found in possession of marijauna. . On July 7th, Yvon Gagne of Terrace Heights appeared before Judge Duthie in Provincial Court and entered a plea of guilty to impaired driving. "Gagne was fined $400.00 or to serve forty days in jail. John Graham was found guilty of Break and Enter of the Imperial Restaurant and received one year probation, to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Five other persons were remanded to August 4th, when their charges will be heard. Road sign metrication is now underway in Quebec. Exits on major toll roads out of Montreal have been numbered according to the distance in Kilometers from the city. In Alberta, signs have been erected showing mot- orists metric equivalents of current road speeds. Ontario will go metric on September 5th, so all drivers are encouraged to THINK METRIC.
