PAGE 18 TERRACE BAY NEWS MARCH 2, 1977 SMITHEMAN : The funeral of the late Mrs. John Smitheman nee Ethel Cameron, whose death occurred on February 19, 1977 was conducted in St. : Andrew's United Church on February 22nd by Rev. Brian Bigelow, with the ladies' choir taking part. \ The honourary pallbearers were Bernard Paradis, Austin Cosgrove, Walter Ilijow, Russell Macadam, Walter Murphy and Denis Neylon. ; Active bearers were Walter Ballard, Martin Ryan, Cyril Pike, Borden Ross, D'Arcy Wilson and William D'Arcy. : Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. - Mrs. Smitheman, who was 85 years old, was born in Spanish Mills, and came to Schreiber in 1921 following her marriage to Mr. Smithe- man in Massey, Ontario. Her immediate survivor is a son, John, of Schreiber and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1948. Prior to the Church Service, Ruby Rebekah Lodge #279, of which Mrs. Smitheman had been a member since 1925, held their funeral rite in the King Funeral Home. 'Mrs. Smitheman had played the organ in the United Church, and later sung in the choir. . She had belonged to the Church's Women's Missionary Society, and was an Honourary Mem- ber of the United Church Women, a member of the Chimo Club and of the Schreiber Art Club. For many years Mrs. Smitheman taught piano, at times being the only teacher in town. Her reputation grew each year as her students made excellent marks in tests given by examiners from eastern Ontario. Several of her students went on to complete their education in music. Among those attending the funeral from other places were: Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm, Parkhill, Ontario; Mr. William Darby, Dubre- ville, Ontario; Mrs. Annie Cameron, Thunder. GLAD HONOURED ON 90TH BIRTHDAY William (Bill) Glad was Forcered on his 90th birthday at a dinner party in his son Earl's home on February 19, 1977.
