Public Library Terrace Bay, Ont. Vol. 20 No. 7 FEBRUARY I6, I977 20¢ PER COPY STOKES QUESTIONS DOCTORS' OFFICES February 3rd, I977 The Honourable Frank Miller Ministry of Health Hepburn Block - 10th Floor Queen's Park, Toronto, Ontario Dear Mr. Minister: You will no doubt recall the many letters and conversations 'that we have had over the past two years concerning the urgency surrounding the McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay. The Board and the people residing in the Terrace Bay - Schreiber - Rossport area have left > no stone unturned in their efforts to assemble sufficient capital to meet their share of i capital costs. An addendum to their financial program was submitted to George Visakaly, the Project Manager from your institutional planning branch. This document was sent in the third week of December, I976. * As I understand it, the main bone of contention was your Ministry's objection to the in- clusion of doctors' offices in the hospital-clinic complex. It has come to my attention that in the Toronto General Hospital expansion program, the number of active treatment beds are be- ing reduced from IIOO to I000. This space has been proposed for physicians' offices, to be used for private practice and designated as institutional, rather than commercial. I am fur- ther advised that the cost of the proposed expansion and renovation is $36,000,000, $29,000,000 of which is a Provincial grant and that this project has provincial cabinet approval. In my opinion, the McCausland Hospital Board has made a convincing case for this much need- ed health facility in the Schreiber-Terrace Bay area. You, personally, have already assured me that it will be given high priority in the allocation of the capital funding available to your Ministry at the present time. I respectfully urge you to leave no stone unturned in order to expedite the allocation of the required funding so that this project can get underway as soon 'as the weather permits, this spring. Your interest and cooperation in this important TRELSTy. as always, will be most welcome "and greatly appreciated. ' Yours sincerely, Jack Stokes /MPP Lake Nipigon
