The Schreiber Municipal Council held it's Inaugural Meeting on January 10th, attended by a unusually large number of citizens. Those taking the Oath -included Reeve H.J. lcParland, Councillors H.H: Fischer, J.S. Caccamo. N.J. Boon and K.J.: 0! Brien, with Clerk-Treasurer Aurel Gauthier and, Ron Harris Road Supt. kKeeve McParland welcoméd the Councillors. Mr. Fischer is now serving his eleventh year term on the council. Mr. Caccamo was a for- mer member who returned this year. Mr. 'Boon and Mr. O'Brien said it was gratifying to see the younger people in town indicating their interest and support. The Reeve said, in his opinion, the chief considerations this year are: getting the new sub-division opened; the opening of the pre- sent arena and building of a new one with con- cideration of acquiring more adjacent proper- tv; the paving of some roads; sanding of roads during winter and keeping them as wide as |, rnssible; follow-up action to ensure that Sznior Citizens apartment complex is 'built in the town; sidewalks broken during sewage connections will be looked into; two phases of the storm sewers report will be looked to; completing the zoning by laws and up- Sans the present housing policy. Caccamo; Rirchwood Terrace. and Pinewood Court - Reeve McParland: Council; Representative to The McCausland Hospital Beard - Mrs. Dorothy Rummerv. A.J. Gauthier was named as ratepayers! representative to the Library Board and Mrs. Sandra Quinton is the new member. The library grant was set at two thousand dollars. The Board members are 'Mrs. Norah McGuire, Mrs. Esther Walker and Miss Gwen Hadley. Regular meetings of the Council will be held the second Tuesday of each month, at 7 p.m., on a six month trial period. Mrs. Rummery presented a lengthy report on the work of the hospital board: Councillor O'Brien was appcinted to attend the quarterly meeting of the Thunder Bay District Municipal League. Letters were received from citizens pro- testing the operation of snowmobiles within Constable Don Anderson of the local ines from Thunder Bay shortly which will as- sist the police in controlling the problem. He also mentioned that the police had discover -ed several premises left unsecured at night. The car allowance for the by law enforcement officer was increased to $200.00 per month, to be reviewed at the end of this year. General accounts totalling $10,213.49 and water bills amounting to $136.04 were passed for payment. A letter was received from the Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee regarding the status of the committee. It is apparent that there are two committees involved in the plan- ning of the new arena. It was clarified that the Committee formed on the night of the Town Hall Meeting is a fund raising committee. The funds received will be used to repair the arena this year, and to construct a new arena.
