LAKE SUPERIOR BOARD MEETING: Cont'd from pg.l for the unexpired duration of Mrs. Gelding's term of office. The Manitouwadge Trustees were asked to select a person or persons for consideration by the Board at its September meeting. Under the I974 Education Act, a person is qualified to be a member of a Board -of Education if he is: a) A Canadian citizen, b) 18 Years of age, c) 'A resident within the & area of jurisdiction of the Board, d) In the case of a Public School Board, a Public School Elector. The resignation of Rev. C.B. Graham, from the Advisory Committee for the School for Trainable Retarded Children, was accepted with regret, effective July 30, 1976. Sketch plans for a new addition to the In- . dustrial Arts Shop in Manitouwadge High School were examined and approved, with some minor - changes. The Architects have now been asked to prepare detailed drawings and call for tenders. It is hoped that the addition will be ready for occupancy late in the fali, if everything goes according to plan. An Engineering Firm has been engaged to conduct a survey on the heating system at the Marathon High School and to recommend to the Board what changes are necessary in order to switch over to conventional heating apparatus. At the moment, the school receives its steam supply from American Can Company. ; Mr. Boudreau, Superintendent of Busines and Finance, reported that the three Mainten- ance Working Foremen, who were hired earlier this year, are doing an excellent job in look-- ing after the Maintenance Program of the schools, houses and apartments owned by the. Board. Already, approximately 35% of the tot- al maintenance program for the System has : been completed and it is hoped that by the end of the calendar year the entire maintenance 4 program, as planned, will be carried out. 5 It was drawn to the attention of the Board that there is some discrepancy in costs per square foot for the cleaning of our schools. / Some schools are cleaned under contract with : MacEachern and some are cleaned by the Board's own forces. The Director of Education was asked to investigate the reasons for the re- latively high cleaning costs in some of our schools. During the past academic year, very suc- cessful Night School' Courses were run inside this system. Registrations were as follows: Manitouwadge - 281 students were registered in 12 different courses, Marathon - 266 stu= dents were registered in 10 different courses, Schreiber & Terrace Bay - 414 students in 13 THON ---- a ---- a ------ different courses.
