Helmink, C. Brassard and J. Kennedy present. The minutes of the meeting held on Octob- er 7th were read and adopted as such. Correspondence read was: a letter from Ontario Housing Corportation informing coun- cil of the new District Office in Thunder Bay to administer various programmes. Coun- cil will await a visit by a representative. The Ministry of Environment sent in a can- cellation of the course regarding Basic Sew- age Treatment Operation. Council will seek an alternative location. A notice was sent to the Terrace Bay Cur- ling Club that a new rental rate for I975-76 has been agreed upon and will be forwarded to the Recreation Committee for inclusion in + their policy. A letter from Association of Chiefs of Police was read inviting Clerk-Treasurers to attend a meeting in Marathon at which Budget Resource Analysis will be discussed. W. Ha- nley was authorized to attend. A report from The Ministry of Environment aon the condition of the Sanitary Land Fill Site - A meeting will be arranged between re- presentatives of Council from Schreiber and Terrace Bay to discuss the report. From Chief Barnett recommending the de- signation of a "School Bus Unloading" area in front of the Lake Superior High School- Terrace Bay Campus. The Clerk is to prepare the necessary by-law. A resolution from the Township of Longlac regarding classification of Curling Rinks as a Community Centre was received. Council will continued page 2.uaiinii., «i Geass GOLDEN TULIPS The Royal Ca- nadian Legion will celebrate its Golden Ann- iversary in I976. It was in Winn- ipeg, Manitoba in I926 that 'va- rious organiza- tions of World War I veterans banded together to form the Can- adian Legion. The Dominion Ch- arter was. grant- ed on the I7th of July I926. Among the various activities to recognize this anniversary the Legion is planting golden tu- lips, imported from Holland, all across Cana- da, which will include our nations capital ci- ty. The Terrace Bay Legion purchased 500 of these tulips. One hundred were given to the Home for the Aged, Birchwood Terrace. One hundred were given to the Township of Terrace Bay. Three hundred golden anniversary tulips were planted at the Legion building site. The Terrace Bay Legion's World War I vet- eran Mr. W.E. Cavanaugh planted the first go- lden anniversary tulip as shown in the photo- graph. It was an honour for the Legion to have Mr. "Ed" Cavanaugh perform this ceremony. Mr. Cavanaugh was Terrace Bay's first Postma- ster, he is a former member of Council and a former Reeve. Mr. and Mrs. Cavanaugh came to Terrace Bay in I946 and raised a family of eight children.
