PAGE 8 TERRACE BAY NEWS MARCH 6, I974 BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING The February 27th meeting of the Lake Super- ior Board of Education held at Marathon High School began with Mr. Joe Heenan, spokesman for a group of Terrace Bay parents presenting a request to the Trustees for a transportation run at noon hour between the Schreiber and Terrace Bay Campuses of the Lake Superior High" School. A question and answer session concluded with the following resolution: The Board will pro- vide transportation at noon hour between Sch- reiber and Terrace Bay, effective immediately on a trial basis for the rest of this term. The minutes of meeting No. 2/74, were declar -ed adopted and disbursements for January 1974 in the amount of $309,839.40 were approved. The Tax Collection Report for Unorganized Territories was reviewed by Business Administr- ator, H.J. Boudreau. One tax sale appears imm -inent. Trustee questions on the Comparative State- ment of I973- Actual Expenditures to Ceilings were answered by the Director. The resignations of Mrs. Diane Kairys, Manitouwadge High School, effective August 3I, I974 and of Mrs. Carol Ross, Manitouwadge Public School, effective August 3I, I974 were accepted with regret. - The transportation allowances for students will be increased to the maximum provided'by the Ministry, effective March I, I974. The Board will re-negotiate their trans- portation contract with North Shore Transit Limited upon expiration of the present con- tract June 30, I974. The plan for Group Insurance for Trustees and Executives as presented by the 0.S.T.C. through Reliable Life Insurance Company, effective immediately, was accepted. Mr. G.R. Saumur, Principal of Manitouwadge Public School, summarized his proposal for a Junior Kindergarten program and responded to Trustee questions. : The Board will institute a Junior Kinder- garten Program at the Manitouwadge Public School for the I974-75 school year as a piloe project. Future advertising for Kindergarten regis- trations is to réflect the Board policy of a relaxation of the age requirement when accom- modation availability permits same.
