TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 7, 1972 HOTEL PROPOSED AS HOME FOR THE AGED ~The Chairman of the Board of Management of the District of Thunder Bay Home for the aged, Mr. James Syminton, was informed on Tuesday August 28, 1972 that Kimberly Clark of Canada Limited were prepared to donate the 54 room Terrace Bay Motor Hotel to the Board of Management for use as a Home for the Aged. The building is located on a five acre site adjacent to Highway 17 and overlooking Lake Superior. It has been maintained in excellent condition. The Members of the Board of Management, Mr. Hugh Ellis, Consulting Architect with the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and the Adminis- trator of Pinewood Court, made an inspection tour of the Building and site on Friday, September Ist. Following the tour the Board Members met with Mr. Grant Puttock, Resident Operations Manager, and members of the Terrace Bay Municipal Council . Mr. Syminton, Board Chairman, expressed the appreciation of the Board of Management for the offer and pointed out that there were certain steps that would have to be taken before the offer could be accepted. The first was completion of a detailed study by Mr. Hugh Ellis of the construction of the building and the necessary alterations to bring it up to the stand- ards required for a home for the aged. In the event that Mr. Ellis' efforts indicate that the building would be suitable, then it would be necessary fo obtain estimates for the capital costs involved and to obtain by laws supporting the project from a majority of the sixteen participating municipal ities, approval of the capital costs by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and approval of a borrowing by law by the Ontario Municipal Board would also be required. ROSSPORT Mr. and Mrs. M. Oakley of Thunder Bay and Miss Irene Pelletir of North Bay were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Legault. Miss Beverly Legault is visiting relatives in Thunder Bay. oe. and Mrs. Herb Legault entertained relatives at a weiner roast and song fest on their patio Saturday evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Legault, John Danny and Beverly Legault, Mr. and Mrs. Jos Campbell, Diane, Joan Mary Clare and Joseph Campbell, Maxine Hubelit, Alice and Tommy Bouchard, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gerow, Cathy and Peter Gerow. Anna and Wilbur Bain visited the Tookaney*fam- ily in Nipigon during the week. Peter Mushquash is visiting his sister Agnes and her husband Dave Iddison in Toronto. Mrs. Ronald Lanigan and infant daughter returned Friday from the General Hospital in Thunder Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Bain and daughters Vianna, Anne and Melissa have returned from a holiday in Timmins, Chapleau, Hawk Junction and Wawa. Brian and Donnie Ray are visiting relatives in Kirkland Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Minoletti of Thunder Bay are visiting Peter Restori. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Wilde have returned from a holiday in Montreal and Cape Breton Island. D'Arcy Bain celebrated his seventh birthday with a party, a decorated cake and received many love- ly gifts from Vera, Jacqueline, Denis and Francis Goodchild, Laura Ray, Anita and Terry Ann Bouchard, Cathy Gerow, Melissa, Anna, Vianna, Wilbur Bain. Games and contests were enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Felix Legault are holidaying with relatives in Fort Frances, Ont. The George Bruley family has returned to Thunder Bay after several week's holidays at their summer residence here. Leona Gerow was a Nipigon visitor over the holiday weekend. Mrs. Susan Jacobson and two sons have left for Thunder Bay for the school term. Keith Penner, M .P, of Ottawa visited Mr. and Mrs. CW. Todesco on Sunday. He was accompan- ied by P.M, Dube of Marathon. Rev. Father O'Flattery of Spanish, Ont. held services in St. John Berchman's Roman Catholic Church here Sunday. He also gave the sacrament Baptism to the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Lanigan. The baby's name is Eva-Marie Elizabeth and the sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Todesco.
