GRADE 8 PUBLIC SCHOOL CURLING BONSPIEL - by Greg Turner By 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15th all the teams had arrived in preparation for the curling play- offs. Two teams from Schreiber, Marathon, Manitou- wadge and Terrace Bdy were present and most teams showed good contention for the cup. Each tewn had both a blue and a red mixed team. The scoring went like this = a team played another team of the same colour. Two points were awarded for each end won and four additional points for each game won. After three rounds of curling, Marathon had the most points in the blue division and Schreiber had the most points in the red. During the final round of the curling bonspiel, these two teams played off with Marathon barely beating Schreiber by one point Our thanks goes out deeply to the Terrace Bay Ladies Curling Club who helped a great deal on the organizing and supervising of the bonspiel . BOY SCOUT NEWS On Saturday, April 22nd, the Lake Superior Area Council of the Boy Scouts of Canada held their second Annua) Meeting, which was hosted by the Terrace Bay Group Committee. were present, while Mr. H. Peverley, Regional Ex- ecutive, attended from Thunder Bay. During the meeting it was Mentioned several times that the wdr- king together of group committees from the different towns has helped to strengthen and unify the indiv- idual Scout-groups, while an excellent Area train- ing-program for leaders as well as for boys has been realized during the past year.' : On behalf of the Nominations Committee, Mr. Cy Pyke presented the names for nomination of of- fice for the year 1972/1973 and the following offic- ers were elected for the Area Council: Chairman - Mr. G. Smith (Manitouwadge); Vice-Chairman - Mr. E. Trapp (Schreiber); Sec-Treasurer = Mr. L Oliver (Nipigon) . The incoming chairman expressed the thanks of council to the outgoing executive Mr. L Plemel and Mr. G. Grossbendt for the hard work and fine per- formance of the past year. Annual reports of the different towns were read by representatives of the groups. Due to the resign- ation of the Chairman of the Terrace Bay Group Committee Mr. Doug Whicker, the report on Terrace Bay was given by treasurer Mr. D. Buckley, who commented on a very successful year in scouting. He reported further that the local Venturers were fortunate to have found a new advisor in Mr. Mort Purvis, local High School teacher. Next week-end the Terrace Bay Venturers will be hosts to the Vent- urers of Marathon, who will be visiting their camp at White Sand Lake. Mr. Wayne Young reported on a proposed Cuboree to be held in Terrace Bay in June 1972, while Scou- tleaders Mr. G. Dickson and Mr, D.
