Among the cont ingent of members of the Canad- ian Ladies Curling Association was our own Peggy Wellings, of the Terrace Bay Curling Club, chosen as one of two from all of Ontario to represent her province. The Canadian | adies had been invited to visit Scotland and enjoy the hospitality and curling by members ot the Royal Caledonia Curling Club, ladies Branch. Two representat ives were chosen from each prov- ince across Canada, then plans were made, a suit-: able wardrobe chosen so all would be dressed alike. Canada was well represented. i The ladies curled on every ice rink in Scotland travelled 1600 miles by bus, threw eleven tons of rocks, and wal ked 73 miles. Each place visited in Scotland had worked and planned for two years for the one-day visit of the Canadians. In 1967, the Scotland Curling Club ladies had been guests of the| C.L.C. Assoc., in Western Canada, curling in Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria. Films taken on this tour were edited and shown in Scotland, to raise money to make possible the return visit of the Canadian Curlers. Gifts were received at each place and at Kelso, a tartan length was presented specially woven in greens, blues and reds for the guests, at Dundee tartans in car rugs were presented, and from the continued page 2 ....... Terrace Bay Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening, with Reeve W .E. Cavanaugh presiding. Minutes were read and adopted. A thank you note was read from Mr. and Mrs. W. Vezina, this year's winner of the Christmas Sparkle Contest. A feasibility study, compiled by Wardrop Asso- ciates, Consulting Engineers, with respect to cov- ering the existing swimming pool, was a very com- prehensive report. The estimated amount fo con- struct the enclosure was well outside the range of Council. : A letter from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit stated they were pleased to accept the name of Reeve Cavanaugh on the Board of Directors. The Recreation Committee advised Council that terms of office for Mrs. Chapman, Mr. Melnyk, Mr. Pollard and Mr. Roberts had expired. Mrs. Chapman and Mr. Pollard had indicated their willingness to stand for office again. Several applications for the new positions on the committee were reviewed, and the following were .re-appoin- ted and appointed = Mrs. Chapman, Mr. Tom Pollard, Mr. Carl van Eeden and Mr. John Pedersen. Mr. John Scott, of the Department of Mines and Northern Affairs, stated he would be in the Terr- ace Bay office to see anyone requiring his services on the afternoons of the following dates - January 19, February 1, 15th, March 7th and 21st. Mr. Ken Macleod, Principal of the Terrace Bay Public School, sent a letter to Council, and also continued page 10....... :
