The evening began with a Golden Bar ceremony for Janice Liebrock. The Brownies formed a golden ladder asking Janice questions 'pertaining to her tests at each rung. Janice was congratulated by the pack when she reached the golden ground at the end of the ladder. Mrs. Moher, our retired Brownie Leader was called to the toadstool where Lesley Anderson presented her with a teaspoon engraved with the Brownie emblem on behalf of all the Brownies who have enjoyed having Mrs. Moher as their Brownie leader for the past three and a half years. Tawny Owl McCormick led the sing song and games teaching the Brownies new songs which were thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Cinnamon toast and tea were served to the guests by Laura Caccamo, Cathy Dakin, Kathy Lang, Janice Liebrock and Maureen Pytyck. Photo below = Lesley Anderson presented teaspoon to Mrs. Moher. MEN'S CURLING CLUB NEWS The Terrace Bay Men's Curling Club held its Semi-Annual General Meeting in the Curling Club Lounge on Wednesday, October 20th. A good turn out of members were on hand to discuss several im= portant items concerning the 1971-72 curling season Club President Jack Chapman announced that the Men's Northwestern District Playdowns would be hosted by the local Men's Club sometime in Febru- ary. He also reported that the Terrace Bay Recrea- tion Association had agreed to rent the Club its Curling facilities this coming year at the same rate as in 1970-71; therefore, it was recommended that there be no increase in membership fees for the 1971-72 season. This recommendation met with the approval of the members so, for the coming * season, fees will be as follows: Men's Club (and men curling in Mixed League) = $30; Associate Membership -$15.; Junior Membership (18 years old, or over and still attending school) -$10. All fees must be paid in full by November 30th and as in past years, all curlers must also be Recrea- tion Association members. The recommended draw system for this year was discussed at length before finally being given a vote of approval by the members present. Briefly, the system is as follows: - - There will be One Men's League (rather than the "three-league" system used last year). Any person interested in curling in the Men's League is to complete a membership form and submit it to Membership Chairman, Nestor Trach (or to: any other member of the executive); these forms may also be deposited in special boxes at the Mill bulletin board and at the Canadian Imperial Bank! of Commerce (A membership form can be found in the full-page ad printed on page 24 in this week's issue of the Terrace Bay News). - All membership forms will list the name of the member and the position he wishes to curl. A committee will determine the appropriate position for which each member will be eligible. = All skips will be assembled to select their rinks from the "rated" membership according to a draft system. -New rinks will be selected in this manner two other times during the year. = The curling schedule will be drawn up so that each rink will ordinarily play 2 nights each week. Men's nights will be Mondays, Wednesdays and alternate Fridays (At present, plans are for the Mixed League to curl on Friday one week, on Saturday the next week and so on). - Anyone wanting to play in the Men's League, but wishing to curl only one night per week should contact Draw Committee Chairman, Jim Rogers (825-3635), to see if some special arrangement can be made. Curling Clinic: To acquaint new curlers to the game, a Curling Clinic will be held next week (the first week in November). This is a part of a Membership Drive being held to revitalize the in- terest in curling among new curlers in town. All curlers submitting Membership Forms by November st - cont'd page 9 ...
