Mr. Forgues, Principal, Schreiber-Terrace Bay High School, informs us that courses of a purely esthetic or recreational nature are being introduced, and that if such a course is headed by a Course Leader rather than by an instructor, as in the past, there will be no charge for that group. Any group who wishes to get together for a particular activity may do so at no cost, as long as the activity is approved as part of the night classes' program, and as long as there is no cost to the Board in order to sponsor the activity. These activity groups and courses should originate from the people of the community. Anyone desiring further information about such courses should call the high school in his community. OSSTF HOLDS DISTRICT WORKSHOP On Saturday, October 16, 1971, a workshop was held for OSSTF staff representatives from Districts 28 and 29 at the Nor=Shore Motor Hotel in Thunder Bay. The workshop was organized by the Provincial Office in Toronto. For the first time, the President of OSSTF, Mrs. Jean Aceti, who is from Sudbury, and Dr. D.S. Felker, General Secretary, paid a visit to these districts. Also in attendance were Mark Barry, the Communications Officer, and D.T. London, the field representative to District 28 (Kenor-Fort Francis), and District 29 (Thunder Bay). These personages, along with a number of people well versed in the background and general functioning of OSSTF who were chosen from these regions, acted as resource personnel for the workshop. The basic aims of the workshop were to acquaint staff representatives with the Provincial Officers, and to establish a more personal relationship be= tween them and the members from these remote districts. The aim was also to acquaint, encourage, and inspire greater involvement in OSSTF programs; to assist the local representatives in fulfilling a more meaningful role in their respective schools; and to develop quality programs in such specific areas as certification, educational finance, and public relations. The entire program was initiated by an informal reception held on Friday evening to enable the participants to become acquainted in an unofficial manner, and fo exchange views and grievances as a prelude to the main event. On Saturday the work= shop was officially opened when the general assembly was addressed by the President, Mrs. Aceti. The assembly was then divided into three goups who then dispersed to discuss the various topics on the agenda. The afternoon general assembly was addressed by Dr. Felker, General Secretary, and then the groups, along with their resource personnel, again separated for further discussion. Another general assembly at 5 p.m. ended the workshop. At this time the results and conclusions reached by the various groups were summarized. This workshop was attended by W.D . Klassen, Representative for Schreiber Campus, and J. McEwen who substituted for A. Stevenson, the Terrace Bay Campus representative. The program was pronounced a success by all those in attendance, and it was suggested that similar workshops be held on a semi-annual or annual basis in the future since the value of the workshop, from an educational and professional standpoint, far outweighed the cost of incurred by the Provincial Office. N.S.5.5.A.A, CROSS-COUNTRY RESULTS On Wednesday, October 20, 1971, Schreiber Campus hosted the annual Cross-Country meet with teams from Chapleau, Geraldton, Nip-Rock, Schreiber-Terrace Bay and Wawa participating. After an enjoyable afternoon, everyone returned to the school for a lunch which was provided by Schreiber Campus Athletic Association and refresh= ments provided by the Schreiber-Terrace Bay Students Council. The presentation of awards were made by the Geraldton coach, Mr. Amm, assisted by Mr. Wilde. Individual trophies were presented to Ist place winners, and ribbons to 2nd and 3rd place winners. In the Midget Girls' division, Tara Greenwood of Schreiber-Terrace Bay placed Ist. In the Junior Grils' division, Janet Zwir, Schreiber-Terrace Bay, earned 2nd place, while Wanda Gorman, also of Schreiber-Terrace Bay placed 5th. Jane Chopty capped the Senior Girls' division to win another first for Schreiber-Terrace Bay. Overall team placements were as follows: Midget Girls = Chapleau 1st, Wawa 2nd, Nip- Rock 3rd; Junior Girls = Nip=Rock 1st, Geraldton 2nd, Chapleau 3rd; Senior Girls: Chapleau Ist, Nip-Rock 2nd.
