It was extremely encouraging to see the number of parents that attended this special programme for the children who took part in all summer activities. During the course of the evening, the Playground children as directed by the Playground staff pre=- sented some very interesting entertainment and it was certainly enjoyed by those in attendance. The presentation of the Duriez Trophy fo the winner was one of the highlights of the evening. Winners of this year's Duriez Trophy were R. Vander- kam and A. Vanderkam. This trophy is presented annually by Mr. and Mrs. H. Duriez, based on seven different categories on which swimmers are judged. These two boys should be extremely proud of winning this award as the trophy is emblematic of swimmers who are having a very successful year at both the competitive swimming level and the training level. For the first time since the trophy has been award- ed, independent judging which takes place among eight people resulted in a tie. Another highlight of the evening was a special presentation made by the Chairman of the Recrea- tion Committee, Mrs. Ollie Chapman, to Mr. Stu Reid in recognition of his efforts in promoting Junior Bowling in Terrace Bay. Comments that were received follow ing Awards Night indicated that this programme should be continued on a yearly basis as it not only involved the children but also provided an enjoyable evening for parents. pS continued page 2 ........
