At 7:30 p.m. Mr. Briscoe, principal, opened the ceremony; then introduced Mr. Lumley, the grade eight teacher. In his brief a*ress Mr. Lumley encouraged the students to work diligently and to strive towards becoming happy, well-adjusted citizens. Following Mr. Lum- ley's congratulatory address, Mr. Briscoe showed and commented upon photographs of the grade eight's recent excursion to Toronto. Students read short narratives about the event of each day when the class was on the excursion: Sally Turner read the events of Monday, June 7th, while the other days' events were read by Nora Mikus, Don Hamilton, Clarke Gander, Alan Dorland and Gail Gould. Everyone displayed considerable enthusiasm over this reenactment of the entire ex- cursion. Mr. Briscoe explained how the whole ex- cursion project was a remarkable achievement. Then, another remarkable achievement was ack- nowledged as Mrs. Ballentine awarded the Legion Proficiency Award to Don Hamilton on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223. Don well deserved this award since throughout the year he displayed a sincere desire to succeed and showed a sense of responsibility and an interest in other people.
