THE ONTARIO CONSUMER CARAVAN The Consumer Caravan is an extension of the con- tinuing consumer protection and information programs administered by Ontario's Department of Financial and Commercial Affairs. Its objective is to promote and sustain public awar=- eness of consumer rights and responsibilities in the market place and through the dominant theme of "think BEFORE you Buy'. Since its formation in 1966, the Department has consistently enunciated and advocated a principle and practice of full and true disclosure of all mater- ial facts surrounding buyer-seller transactions. Simply put, it is a matter of getting "all of the facts" on the table to allow consumers to make their own decisions under fair and reasonable circumstances. The presentations inside the Caravan, and the audio visual program screened on the outside, deal with a number of critical arzas which affect all of us in a variety of ways. Areas such as consumer credit, real estate, buying a used car, investments and securities. Special problems unique to young people and to the elderly are highlighted. The Caravan will be visiting many locations in Ontario and will be sited primarily at "people cen- tres" such as shopping plazas and high schools. Your local business community will have assisted you and this Department by providing facilities for the Caravan visit. Consumer problems, whether imagined or real, require on-going dialogue between the business sector and the public they serve. The Caravan, we suggest, could provide a useful forum for the exchange of ideas and views of common inter= est. A member of the Department of Financial and Commercial Affairs, Mr. Ray Garstang, will accom= pany the Caravan on its travels handling individual enquiries and complaints. Mr. Garstang, who is familiar with the Department's programs will give answers where possible and bring difficult cases back to the appropriate people in the Department where they will be investigated thoroughly and dealt with promptly. to The Caravan will be located in Schreiber on the extension of Scotia Street, opposite the Township Hall. It will be open to the public from 2:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on July 12th, 1971.
