Wellings - Ladies Ringer Board Crown Life Trophy) RETIREMENT LUNCHEON HELD FOR FRED SOUGHTON Al Chisholm makes presentation to Fred Soughton. On May éth Fred was honoured at a luncheon at the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel which was sponsored by the Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper Company. He took an early retirement effective April 30th. On the same date a well attended stag was held for him in the Moose Hall. Arie Fred started working for the Company on July 2, 1946. He came to Terrace Bay to establish recreation and community organization facilities, such as schools, churches, libraries, etc. He was the first editor of the Terrace Bay News which was first pub- lished in 1946. hd At mill start-up in 1948 Fred moved into the safety field and was the Company's first Safety continued nexf column ..... Coordinator. In 1958 he assumed new responsibilities as Training Coordinator responsible for mill super= visory and pre=-supervisory training. s During his tenure as Safety Coordinator he was very active in the Pulp and Paper Section of the Ng- tional Safety Council for a period of ten years, which culminated in 1956-57 with the General Chairman- ship of the 70 man continent-wide executive commit- tee of the Pulp-and Paper section. Fred has been active in teaching management sub- jects to Thunder Bay business people at the Lakehead University and Confederation College and he expects | to continue activities in this field. Fred and his wife Gertrude, will continue to live in Terrace Bay at 83 Hudson Drive. Their daughter Ruth is presently at home after oftending University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. VOWS EXCHANGED Irene Edmond and John Steen were united in mar= riage on April 30th, at 4:30 p.m. in St. Martin of Tours Church with Father A. Greengrass officiating. Irene's sister, Mrs. Doreen Goodfellow, was Matror, of honour, and Peter Doig as Best Man. " A small reception was held after the ceremony in the Curling Club Lounge. : WOMEN OF THE MOOSE HOLD PENNY AUCTION Women of the Moose Chapter 1426 held their chapter night meeting recently with Senior Regent Alice Yates presiding. Academy of Friendship Chair=- man Kay Furyk and her committee were in charge of chapter night programme. Enrollment took place with new member, Leona Fournier, being welcomed into the defending circle. Recorder Sadie Benko read the minutes of the pre- vious meeting and also the correspondence. Various reports were given by standing committees and nomi- nations took place. A Penny Auction was held after the meeting and lunch was served by K. Furyk, A. Didura, A. Yates, L. Desaulniers and M. Smilsky. The raffle was won by Stella Sadowick and the pot of gold by Minnie Woodruff.
