TERRACE BAY NEWS Serving The District May 5, 1971 COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council met in Chambers at 6:30 on Tuesday evening, with Reeve Cavanaugh presiding 'Minutes were adopted as read and business arising included the fact that a tour of the town will take place shortly, to assess the issue of the Anti-litter campaign. Councillor Chisholm indicated that Kimberly-Clark may again supply equipment to haul away inoperative vehicles and old wrecks, unable to be moved by the owners. A letter was received from the Guides and Brownies asking permission to hold their annual Cookie Day on Friday, May 7th. Permission was granted. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, Terrace Bay, submitted a cheque for $25. to be used for the Transient Fund. This was turned over to the Police Department. The Advisory Committee for Quetico Park acknow- .ledged receipt of a letter from Terrace Bay Town" ~ Council indicating support of their brief on the future of Quetico Park, submitted by the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. Numerous letters were read from M,P.P, Jack Stokes and Municipal lawyers concerning the equal- ized assessment for apportionment of costs for the Home for the Aged and in particular, the policy concerning the inclusion of equivalent mine revenue assessment for mining municipalities. A copy of a resolution for St. Catharines Council was received, suggesting that the Province be petit- ioned to with hold further implementation of regional government until such time as those newly created regional municipalities have operated a sufficient length of time to determine the advantages or dis= advantages of such a system. cont'd page 5.c... HEALTH UNIT 'COMES TO THE PEOPLE' A public participatory meeting of the Thunder Bay District Board of Health, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Grace Remus was held in the Schreiber High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on April 23rd. Preceeding the meeting a dinner was given in the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel with Reeve F.V. Harness and Mrs. M. Zombori, clerk, of Schreiber; and Reeve W.E. Cavanaugh and clerk, W.J. Hanley of Terrace Bay also attending. Various supervisory personnel accompanied the board for the purpose of answering questions and supplying background material on their individual responsibilities. : A report was given from W.G. Klages, chairman of the property committee, concerning the Unit's future new clinic facilities at McKellar Hospital. An equit- able arrangement has been made with the hospital board regarding renovations in a section of the former north wing. Additional sub-office space in the municipal building, offered by the town of Geraldton was ac- cepted. Arrangements were finalized regarding the sponsor=- ship of a dental director for the year 1971-72 and subsequent full time employment. Similar arrange- ments for a dental hygienist were discussed. In support of concern expressed by other Health Units the Board strongly endorsed the retention of reg- ulation for pri vate sewage disposal systems by the Ontario Department of Health and the inspection and approval of such systems remaining with local Health units.
