RECREATION BRIEFS - by Jerry Dupas ' PROVINCIAL INSTITUE LEADERSHIP DEVELOP- MENT PROGRAM The Recreation Office has recently received in=- formation from the Youth and Recreation Branch of' the Department of Education outlining a Leader- ship Development Program. This is a Certificate pro- gram consisting of a one-week residential experience each year for three years. Two kinds of programs are available: Adult Educa- tion and Community Leadership. Leadership Development in Adult Education is designed to assist teachers of adults( or those who wish to be teachers of adults) to become more compe- tent. Leadership Development in Community Leadership is designed to meet the needs of volunteers and pro- fessionals who undertake (or wish to undertake) leadership responsibilities. This year's one week's residential course will take place at Geneva Park (a few miles north of Orilla) from June 20th to 26th. Successful participants receive a certificate from the Ontario Department of Education. This certif- icate does not qualify the graduate to teach in the day school system. The Leadership Program is not intended as such. It certifies that the graduate is an adult leader, competent as an adult educator in a particular recreation skill, or competent in community leadership. Successful applicants to the Provincial Institute will have all their travel expenses paid for by the Youth and Recreation Branch.
