Doherty and the appointment of Michael Graver as his successor. J. Symington, chairman of the board of manage- ment of Pinewood Court Home for the Aged, wrote informing council that M.J. Vibert has been appoint ed administrator of the institution. Letters of congratulations were sent to both Mr. Doherty and Mr. Vibert. The Department of Highways wrote stating they are closing their field office in Schreiber and thank- ing Council for use of the rooms. An agreement has been reached with Zenmac Met- al Mines to purchase a steel frame building from the company at an on the site price of $3,000. (three Thousand). Council were in agreement of municipal licensing for lotteries for charitable and religious purposes and formed a by-law to implement such a move. Aurel Gauthier, assistant clerk was named to act as licensing office, with licenses to cost $1.00. General accounts totalling $7,436.17 and water 'costs of $446.84 were passed for payment. i LONG TIME RESIDENT DIES The funeral of the late Leo Victor Godin was con- ducted on November 24th in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church by Dean J.M. Cano and was attended by the life long friends of the deceased in the community. Honorary pall bearers were Don Tremblay, Cyril Sparkes, Reg Bailey, Bill Collinson, Harold McParland and Stan Kusik. Active pall bearers were Art Huard, Wesley Miller Larry Kusik, lan Macadam, Art LeBlanc and Edgar LeBlanc . Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Godin, who was 47 years old, was fatally injured in a railway accident. He was born on Calumet Island and brought to Schreiber as an infant, spending the rest of his life here, except for his service with the R.C.A.F. in England, from 1939 to 1945. While in England he was married and is survived by his wife Margaret; three sons, Lenard of Barrie, Ont.; Dan and Joe daughter Rona, all at home; two brothers, Robert Godin of Thunder Bay; Gerry of Schreiber; three sisters Edna (Mrs. George Ramsay) Terrace Bay; , Ethel (Mrs. Jack Devon) Eganville; Rita (Mrs. Mich- ael McGrath) Schreiber; and many other relatives. He was predecesased by his father in 1961, his mother in 1970 and infant brother. Following Mr. Godin's return from overseas he was first employed with the C.P.R. as a carpenter and at the time of his death was with the Maintenance of Way Department. He was a charter member of the C.P.R. Employees Schreiber Credit Union and had held many offices. Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Godin, Barrie; Mrs. B. Grant, Bos- ton Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Godin and family, Mr. and Mrs. L. Portelance of Thunder Bay as well as many friends and relatives in the immediate district. C.W.L. BAZAAR AND TEA Mrs. Irene Moorey, president, welcomed those attending the Christmas tea and bazaar of the Catho- lic Women's League, with Mrs. Rene Ross as cashier. The baking counter was attended by Mrs. June Sisson and Mrs. Mary Kazmierczak; the sewing table by Mrs. Penny Caccamo, Mrs. Edna Cocks and Mrs. Myrtle Zaporzan; the knitting counter by Mrs. Claire Power and Mrs. Audrey McKay; and the candy booth by Mrs. Freda Duggan, Miss Anne MacDonnell and Sister Haroldine of Terrace Bay. Mrs. Helen Stokes sold tickets on cakes which were won by Mrs. Connie Martin and Mrs. Iris Lidkea. The Catholic Girls Club served at their own table and assisted at the table of religious articles. The servitors were Mesdames Kay Stefurak, Cecile Bedard, Anne Lalonde, Maureen Phillips, Teresa Martin, Doris Gauthier, Betty Huard, Elsie Wills and Connie Gauthier. The kitchen committee were Mesdames Joan Guina, Kay Furyk, Lianne Beauparlant, Dodie Cosgrove, Carla Maronese, Lillian Gagnon, Teresa Power and Norah McGuire, with Mrs. Gloria Mullins and Mrs. Shirley Major as co-conveners. Take-out plates were served by Mesdames Carmela Veneziano and Rose Speziale. Mrs. Phyllis McParland was in charge of the fish- pond; Mrs. Retta Pearson sold tickets on draws, won as follows = doll and cradle by Mrs. Joan Cardiff; bike by Mrs. Helen Bulna with Mrs. Norah McGuire winning the door prize.
