All packed up and dressed to live comfortably at the north pole for at least ten days we were off. A bus transported us and our equipment and left us in the Middle of the Northern Ontario wilderness by Hornblende Lake on Zenmac Mine Road. After setting up our tents and getting organized we eager- ly took to cooking our lunch over the huge fire. As we have been studying the practical use of the compass and learning how to rely on it to reach any given spot, we were divided into two groups and starting from two different points a mile apart, we were instructed to meet on the edge of a small lake back in the bush. The terrain was extremely rough. As one student stated, "For two hours we struggled over mountains, through swamps, over dead trees, and down cliffs." Safely back at camp, preparations began for supper. Supper proved to'be an interesting meal with a variety of menus including potatoes and steak. cont'd page 5 ..
