(Classes will not be held at Schreiber High School). Monday, October 26th: Report Cards issued to First Year Students. CROSS COUNTRY A cross country meet between Schreiber and Terrace Bay was held on October 15, in Schreiber, resulting in some fine times by several participants, and a generally good showing by all. Schreiber was the victor in all events. In junior girls, Janet Zwir placed first, with a time of 10:ll, followed by Wanda Gorman, with a time of 10:13. Marcia Nichol, of Terrace Bay placed third with a time of 10:34 over a | 1/2 mile course. Jane Chopty was the only senior girl entered in the cross-country, but had the best overall time. In junior boys, Bill Smilsky of Schreiber placed first with a time of 12:59 over a 2 1/2 mile course, followed by Ron Chicoine and Mark Stokes, also of Schreiber with times of 13:00 and 13:0 respectively. Bob Nesbitt, of Schreiber, placed first in senior boys with a time of 22:35 over a 3 1/2 mile course. After such a good warm-up, competition should be fierce at the big interschool track meet to be held on October 21st. continued on next column....... REPORT CARDS: First Year Students at Schreiber High School will receive their first report card on Monday, October 26th . The photostatic copy is to be retained for future reference and the original returned to the school with the parents' signature. On Tuesday, October 27th, students will bring home Selection Forms indicating the level of study they have chosen in English, French, Mathematics and Science. The Subject teachers will indicate their recommendations on these forms. These are to be signed by the parents and returned on Wednes- day morning, October 28th. Parents are encouraged: to indicate on the forms any questions or comments they may have, or to arrange for an interview by contacting the guidance department or principal . On Monday, November 2nd, all First Year students will be enrolled in their selected courses. ENTERTAINMENT SET FOR MID-NOVEMBER Mrs. Peter Testori hosted members of St. Berchman's Al- tar Society, Rossport, at the Oc- tober meeting. Mrs. Eugene Ge- row presided and Mrs. Brian O'Hagan was welcomed as a new member. Meeting opened with prayer. Minutes were read by Mrs. Mac Hubelit and passed for adoption by Mrs. Herb Legault and Mrs. C. Todesco. The finan- cial statement and penny auec- tion report were presented by Mrs. Todesco; passed for adop- tion by Mrs. Felix Legault and Mrs. O'Hagan. Letters were read and filed. Parish Council represen- tative Mrs. Todesco read a re- port of the September meeting. Mrs. Hubelit, secretary, was in- structed to write to a Montreal firm for quotations on a taber- nacle. Entertainment was tentative- ly set for Nov. 13. A discussion was held ou making and obtain- ing prizes for the spring penny auction. Some members sug- gested making pot holders and novelties as a roll call, while others suggested having a work period at some of the meetings. The money jar was started for the next fall draw. This is fi- nanced by members depositing a few coins at each meeting in the jar until it amounts to the sum of $25. This method of ob- taining funds is not a burden to members or the organization. A discussion was had on the probability of, holding a crib- bage tournament this winter in the village. It was decided to approach the villagers regard- ing it. There would be no trophy offered for competition but a small fee would be charged to supply prizes at the end of the season. Owing to- the quiet winter months, it was thought that some sort of entertainment could be had following each monthly meeting. This would be up to the hostess in all probabil- ity. Following adjourment and closing prayer, the hostess served lunch. Mr. Marsh of Ontario Water Resources Commission; Mr. Reid, health inspector, Mr. Howieson and Mr. Gage met with the executive of the Ross: port Water Association to ex- plain the treatment of the water and what would be inyolved in setting up such a plant. Further information 'is to be obtained | on such a project. Executive members present included Al- bert Rouble, chairman and Charles Todesco, secretary- treasurer. Unable to attend were Eugene Gerow and J. Spillett.
