You are reminded that the safest and most convent- ional method is to walk facing the oncoming traffic, Remember, your personal safety is your own responsibility. Don't expect the truck and car drivers tc be mind readers. 0-0-0 C.RD OF THuNKS I would like to thank all those who sent me cards ote, during my stay in the hospital. One of these was the drowning of a 17 yeor old who attempted to retrieve an inflated inner tube that was being blown out into the lake by the wind, Pursuing light objects such as inner tubes, beach balls and un- anchored and unoccupied boats has caused the death of mony good swimmers. There is a tantnlizing nearness of these objectives that spurs the swimmer to greater than nor- mal speed and so to rapid fatigue. Often the speed of these objects is much greater that people realize, and before this fact is appreciated by a swimmer, he has gone too far, he other accident fortunately was not as serious though very painful. 4 six year old approached his father who was casting a fair sized artificial lure, Theo fother didn't see the child approach with the re- sult thot the youngster was struck in the face 2s the father snapped the plug back for another cast. One gang hook went completely through the eyelid going in and out but avoiding sericus injury to the eye itself, Others imbedded themsclves in nose and cheek and proved very painful and difficult to romove, This very close call should remind all of us to be extra careful when fishing from public parks or docks to watch for children on every back cast.
