MEN'S CURLING The weather was the most interesting factor in the local curling warlidthis week, The very untimely thew which set in on Sat- urday ruined a lot of good week end curling plus a full night's schedule on Monday. Rune and Jack spent a great many hours getting the ice back into shape for Tuesday's matches. The Club appreciates their efforts. Finis has been written to the New Year's Bonspiel, and it was Jack Wellings who carried off the honours in the winners! brackets, A very fine performance, Jack, and our congratulations to you, and to your backer-uppers: Jim MacDonald (not again?) third, Curly Hale, second, Dave McDonald, lead. Malcolm Craig and his boys didn't make out so well at Marathon in the District Play- downs, Tough luck, Malcolm, we'll read about you in the MacDonald Brier next year instead of this. In the Hiram Walker Boudreau eliminated Baillie in the Consolation semi-finals and will be scheduled to meet the winner of Knauff and Dodge sometime next week. Ostling dusted McColl (ah, sweet revenge!) in the winners! side and will take on the winner of Sinkins and Wellings on Friday night. That play-off will be something to see, folks; it's at 9:00 p.m. on Friday. The Imperial Bank event got off to a start Tuesday with Allen taking Garvin and Lohr topping Whiz Kid Monteith (and Bob was curling his favourite third, Jimmy, too). Thor Olsen is tsking a rink down to the Lakehead Open and will be on the ice today, We wish them luck; competition is tough but the pay-off is worth the trouble, This troupe consists of P. Boudreau, third, Clancy, second and Duquette, lead, There are lots Of interesting bonspiels around the countryside for any of our curlers who are interested, They are all posted in the Clubhouse for your information, We invite your attention particularly to the Longlac event in early March, We would be very happy if some of our curlers took up this event, It would be very good if we could establish closer curling relations with our Woodlands Cousins, If you are interested, please sign up on the bulletin board right away, or notify Secretary Johnny Jessop, so that we can get a letter off to LongLac right away. In resnrd toour own invitational bonspiel, we have nothing new to report. The whole story should be available for next week's issue of the "News!, 0-0-0 Page 3 LADIES' CURLING Hudson's Bay Co.
