The Terrace Bay High School Year Book Staff asked continued page 4 ..... ------ ~ Fe es, J the District March 5 GARAGE COMPOUND FIRE DAMAGED 1970 The seldom heard fire alarm sounded in Terrace Bay on Monday night - 1:25 a.m., when a blaze started in the garage compound on Laurier Avenue. Local fire fighters demonstrated that their hours of practise are very much worth the effort as they had the fire out by two o'clock. It is suspected that a short in a plug~in or en over heated car heater started the fire which complete- ly ruined a car owned by V. Thorpe and, at this time, it looks as if the six-car compound will have to be rebuilt. SKI CLUB RACES Vanderkam became a name to be reckoned with in local ski racing this past weekend, Robert _Vanderkam and sister Carolyn achieved triple victories in the Intermediate Boys and Junior Girls divisions respectively. Robert was the only Inter- mediate boy in a field of five to complete two or more runs down the tough slalom course. After several years of hard trying, Dan Moore took his first combined championship in the Junior Boys division. His closest competitor, Billy Megraw fell victim to a slow pair of skis and a late start in the slalom. Results are as follows: - Junior Boys - Slalom: - Ist D. Moore, 2nd B. Megraw, 3rd G. Kodila; Downhill - Ist P. Prinselaar, 2nd. D. Moore, 3rd H. Prinselaar; Combined - Ist D'. Moore. Junior Girls - Slalom - Ist C. Vanderkam; Down hill - Ist C. Vanderkam, 2nd L.
