REVIEWS YEAR The Ladies Auxiliary of the Community Church held their regular meeting in the Church Hall on Monday evening, with Mrs. Marilyn Chisholm in the ir. Mrs. Chisholm opened the meeting with a prayer, followed by a hymn, with Mrs. Ellen . Helen Brooks led the Minutes were read by Mrs. Barb Wise, and the regular monthly and annual treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Alice Farrow. The Ladies Auxiliary paid for the children's treats given out at the Christmas concert, which in former years had been donated by Chapples. decorated a box for used and new clothing and house hold. goods which were sent to Mrs. Chalmers in Thunder Bay, to be used in her welfare work. Mrs. Pirie took it to the Lakehead. Sick and visiting convener Mrs. E. Haughn stated she had sent out 111 cards during the year. and Means convener Mrs. Stella Brown advised that the auxiliary had had a good year. son resigned from the Altar Committee, after three years of faithful service. Correspondence included thank you notes, and a - bill from the Audio Visual Committee for $15.00 for dues, which was voted to be paid. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs. Chisholm for taking over in September from Mrs. Slomke, who A vote of thanks was also given Mrs. and her committee for serving luncheon following services presented by the Salvation Army Band on December 28th. Mrs. Chisholm, in reviewing the past year, stated that donations had been made to the Mental Health Association, the Family Life Conference, , Transient fund, and to Mrs. Chal- mers, at Thunder Bay with boxes of good used and new clothing, the latter being purchased by the Auxiliary. The remaining payments on the Sunday School 's projector were paid in full by the auxiliary. Clothing, selected from the rummage sale, in good condition was distributed to needy families, along the North Shore. The auxiliary had served a lunch= | | eon to the congregation, following a morning ser- vice on April 12th, creating a feeling of fellowship. In May, the ladies catered to a luncheon for the Visiting Committees. During the year, we purchased twa new tables with extension and ten stacking chairs and new carpeting for ths stairs and hall at the Manse. Once again, the annual bazaar was dispensed wit and Christmas felt stockings and bells were mailed out to the members, to be stuffed with free will of- ferings, and dedicated at a lovely Christmas service, | held in the Church on December 7th. This project . realized over $300.00. On reflection, the President said, the Evening. Auxiliary had had a varied and interesting year. Highlights in the programs were a candid look at China, by the Reverend Walton Tong of Hong Kong, in May, and introduction to modern hymns and folk songs in September, followed by a Square dance party in the Church hall. The ladies were hostesses to the World Day of Prayer, held in March. A fashion show and luncheon were held in the Motor Hotel in March, a bridge in the homes in April, a | rummage sale in May, sponsoring the Ukrainian Youth Group in June. A bake sale was held in September and a Hydro cooking school in October. We also catered to a wedding, the C.G.1.T. Ban- quet in May, supplied coffee and cookies for the Public School Open House, and the lunch for the High School Commencement exercises. Lunch was served to the Salvation Army Band who took the service on Sunday morning, December 28th. After a report like this, it is hard to understand the feeling that there is a lack of interest in the - Ladies Auxiliary, and yet at a recent meeting, there were only seven people out. A discussion took place, at which everyone present voiced their opinion as to whether there is a need for the Auxil- iary to carry one. The verdict seemed to be that a there is still a great need, and that-perhaps the for fF mat should be changed .to,encourage more of our bs members and friends to come out to the meetings . For the month of February, there will be no formal meeting, no program, just a friendly get-together, where a new outlook might be discussed. eotimied page "A
