I JA () SCHREIBER MRS. FUMMERTON HEADS U.C.W. Mrs. Frank Fummerton was elected president of rhe United Church Women at their December meeting. ° Other officers elected were - Mrs. C.E. Prinselaar, vice president; Mrs. Russell Macadam, 2nd vice pres- ident; Mrs. Walter Dukes, recording secretary, Mrs. Bill Thrower, treasurer; Mrs. Oscar Niemi, archivist; Mrs. Lilyan Christie, card secretary; Mrs. Jim Crook and Mrs. Wesley Clemens (past president) auditors. Rev. Prinselaar, who presided for the elections, gave the retiring officers, and the UCW members, a hearty expression of gratitude from the Church Board for their contribution to the Church. Mrs. R.G. Macadam, for the UCW members, pro- posed a vote of thanks to the retiring officers. Mrs. Oscar Niemi, sewing convener, reported eight quilts had been completed - some just quilted, § for customers who had made them, and others.made entirely by the committee. Mrs. Macadam reported the Christmas bazaar and § tea which she convened, had been most successful end thanked members for their contributions, in both i donations and work, and stated that the layette, clothing and bedding supplies for Wayside Church in Fort William, have been completed and she will shortly arrange delivery. Mrs. Macadam also stated that good, used clothing will be welcome any time and forwarded .to the Wayside social service. A letter from Mrs. J.R. Chalmers was read, ask- ing for Christmas gifts for both children and adults, with an urgent need for children and expecially boys' clothing, in Wayside social service. Due to workers there being volunteers, it should be under- stood that the Church is only open certain days: - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 1.30 to 4.30 to receive donations, and.it is with utmost regret the workers are told of people arriving with gifts and finding the building closed. A donation of $10.00 was made to the Bursary Fund of the Manitoba Conference and a donation of $25 .00 to their social service work. Mrs. Ada Freeman of Winnipeg, wrote describing 250 colored slides she has for rent, concerning pov- erty, loss of freedom, and other conditions in the world. These should be booked well in advance of anticipated date of showing. A substantial donation was made to the Church Board. It was noted that in future all allocations in money, go through local church treasurers to be TERRACE BAY NEWS DECEMBER 24, 1969 forwarded. It was decided to pay the cost of new flooring an the Church kitchen. Flowers were ordered for Church Christmas Ser- vices. lt was agreed to again hold the Christmas dinner meeting January 7th with a potluck meal, (turkey provided by the association) and exchange of gifts and penny auction for which each member is asked ' to provide two articles. Mrs. Niemi reported she had sent a personal note of appreciation to Mrs. Jack Rattray in Sudbury for a most generous donation to the Christmas bazaar. Rev. Prinselaar stated the Regional library had offered to sponsor a workshop on making the most of the medium of films (which are supplied free of cost). Mrs. Wesley Clemens presided for the meeting. Mrs. Borden Ross was cashier and Mrs. Fred McColeman the table hostess . The door prize was won by Mrs. Burton Phillips, the doll by Mrs. Leonard Huard, the light fruit cake by Mrs. Jim Duggan, the dark cake by Cosimo Commisso, and the trike by Mrs. Michael Morgor. continued page I] ......
