Pace ja TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 27, 1969 LAY COUNCIL.SET UP IN HOLY ANGELS CHURCH Active pall bearers were Bill Paradis, Ivan Johnson Albert Morris, Ken Davis, John Stitt, and Jack * Friese, and honorary bearers were Edward Nicol, Walter Wilkes, Wallace McCouan, Bob Riley, Tom Bolan, Larry Bourke, Borden Ross, A.E. Rigelsford, Tom Webb, and Lester McCuaig. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery where the Legion's graveside service was conducted by Borden Ross. Mr. Thrower, who was 76 years old, was born in Rossport and had lived in Schreiber for the past 28' years. He had served with the famous 52nd Battalion for four years. He was a member of Shuniah Lodge, AF and AM #287, Port Arthur, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch, 109, Schreiber. In recent years Mr. Thrower's interest had been devoted to his grandchildren, who lived nearby, and his garden, the envy of his friends. Attending the funeral from out of town were many friends from the district and the following relations - Mrs. William Barry, Mrs. Stella Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thrower, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Welsh, Mr. and Mrs. Art Stanzell, Mrs. Louis Albertini, Mrs. Don Wolframe, all of Port Arthur, Louis and Jimmy Nuttal, of Hurkett, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gobeil of Terrace Bay. The lay council recently set up in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church is a structured way for the priest and lay people to share and act fully in the administration of the parish of Holy Angels church and St. John Berchman's, in Rossport. Officers elected were - Wm. Kirkpatrick, chair- man; A. Gauthier, vice chairman; H. Shack, sec- retary. Committee chairmen: - G. Cebrario, parish life; H. Shack, social life; H. McParland, Welfare and E. Borutski, temporal. Other members are Rev. J.M. Cano, P.P.; Joe Willis, Miss Dale Sisson, Mrs. Anne Todesco, with a member to represent the religious and the school to be named shortly . Scope of the committee will involve, for the par- ish-life - the liturgy, church music, choir, lectors, servers, ushers, retreats, Missions, etc. The social life - youth and adolescents, socials, and for the parish, new families, discussion groups, seminars, workshops, community, inter-faith, and ecumenism. Welfare - the needy and poor, aid sick and shut- ins, jobs and housing, missions and mission aid, fam- ily problems, marriage preparation. Temporal - finances of the parish, support, build- ings, care, repairs and maintenance, major contracts for work, building and improvements. St. John Berchman's church is' a self-contained and operating Mission parish, represented by Mrs. Anne Todesco on the new council, and it was sug- gested that Rossport form a Little Council of two to three members to run their own mission parish affairs and report to the over-all council through Mrs. Todesco. Despite the committees formed there is still a need for workers and parishioners were urged to fill out forms suggesting what type of aid they could, and would be prepared to offer. TELEPHONE CONTACT SYSTEM SUCCESSFUL The use of telephone captains is proving successful in the Schreiber C a tholic Women's League and the following new ones named at the November meeting are Mrs. Gail Wel- bourne, Mrs. Alexandria Jacques, Mrs. Elsie Wills, Mrs. Marie Wiznuk and Mrs. Joan Cardiff. Their responsibility is to noti- fy by telephone members con-. cerned in religious or social af- 'fairs about the league. Mrs. Norah MeGuire read a ipaper on sex education in schcols. THROWER The funeral of the late William John (Bill) Thrower, whose death occurred suddenly in his home on November 18th was conducted in St. Andrew's United Church on November 21st by Rev. E.C.
