BOARD OF' EDUCATION RELEASE The Lake Superior Board of Educatiog Education held its regular monthly meeting October 6th in Terrace Bay High School. Disbursements totalling $274,525.00 for September were approved. An agreement was reached with taxi driver in Marathon to bransport stu- dents from their homes to the School for Trainable Retarded, and return at a cost of $15.00 per day. The Board approved a plan of fin- ancial assistance to all staff members who will attend a Professional Develop ment Dey in Thunder Bay on October 24, The Director was empowered to en- gage Mrs. Alice Bott as a teacher of vocal music in Stevens Avenue Public School, Marathon, on a part-time basis Registration fees for Nigh School students for 1969-70 were set. The Board was informed that registrations for these courses were quite heavy , particularly in Marathon. New text books for use in the respective High Schools were approved. : Due to the poor condition of the Annex to the Schreiber Public School the Director was instructed to institute pro- ceedings for the replacement of this building by modern accommodation, attached to the new-section of the Public School. Mr. Raymond Pudas was engaged as careteker at the Mer- athon High School. The resignation of Trustee, Mrs. Marilyn Beacon, was accepted. Mrs. Beacon has accepted a position as an Opp= portunity Cless Teacher in the Manitouwadge Public School. The Director of Education will attend a Conference of the Ontario Association of Educational Officials on Nov. 3rd and 4th. ; A letter of understanding between the Board and the Im- provement District of Manitouwadge regarding preventive maintenance was ratified. The idea of establishing a staff-board relationship committee was accepted. A report of the Policy Committee regarding use of school facilities outside of school hours received considerable at- tention. The report was sent back to Committee for further refinements. However, the first statements of the Pelicy, that the achool facilities be used to the utmost received the unan- {mous approval of all Board Members. The next meeting of the Lake Superior Board will be on Monday, November I7th, in the Marathon High School, at 7 pete NOTICE TO RESIDENTS Due to the amount of stolen bicycles in town the Police Department is spending one third of its time looking for bicycles.
