GUN & HUNTER SAFETY COURSE This year, Schreiber High School has added some- thing new to its active extracurricular programs - the Gun Safety Course prescribed by the Department of Lands and Forests. All hunters must pass this course before being allowed to purchase their first license. For thepast three years Schreiber has not j had such as course, leaving many young people with no opportunity to hunt. This year's course is sponsored by Mr. Gouthro, Schreiber High School teacher, who ET ON Ett eS tt Ne eae: ete ACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 is assisted by fellow instructors Dan Godin, Schreibei High, Grade 12 Student, Schreiber residents, lan ¢ McAdam and Neil Nesbitt. Approximately 30 high school students have enrolled for the course, an indication of the high interest among the student body in gun safety and hunting. Happy Hunting, Students! POTEST FIER The halls of Schreiber High took on a new atmos- phere on Thursday, Sept. 25th., as the students appeared in best attire for the annual picture day. The Yearbook Staff kept Mr. Workholdt from Canadian School Studios busily engaged in taking pictures of each individual student, all classes and organizations within the school. This day add- ed mementum to the advance sale of yearbooks and by Friday some ninety students had purchased their 1969-70 yearbook. It appears to be another succ- essful year for the hardworking yearbook staff . GOLF TOURNAMENT Five Secondary Schools participated in theGolf Tournament at Terrace Bay over the weekend of September 27th; Marathon, Nip-Rock, Schreiber, Terrace Bay and Wawa. Tee off time was 9.30 D.S.T. The winning team comprised of J. Corrigan, R. Hamilton, M. Daskewytch and K. Hanley from Terrace Bay had a total score of 366. Wawa took second place with 367 points and Mar- athon 3rd place with 372. K. Hanley of Terrace Bay had the lowest score of 39. Congratulations to the winners. HALL-DENNIS CONFERENCE On Wednesday, October 8th, all teachers through- out Ontario will study various recommendations, of the Hall-Dennis Report. Our Department of Educ- ation has requested that all elementary and second- ary school educators focus their attention on this document and discuss the wisdom of its implem- entation. All Separate School and Lake Superior Division teachers will convene in Marathon on this date to consider the report in relationship to our local educational system. continued page 16
