. p FRADE TWELVE VISITS ZENMAC MINE Monday September 22nd, marked the day of the rade 5A12 trip to Zenmac Mine. We were all a little frightened about going into 1e mine. Nervously watching 420 feet of rock pass y we whizzed down the mine shaft to the third and inal level. - Cautiously stepping out of the shaft we flashed our ights around the darkness and found ourselves in a avelike area. Our nervousness at being underground isappeared when our guide Mr. E.A. James began > talk of the mine operations. He showed us stopes, aises, escape routes, ore cars and the pipes carrying ir anid water through the mine. We were told of blasting operations and saw how he rock was taken to the surface. In one of the topes we explored and it was here we got our zinc amples. When we finished our underground tour we decided hat the mine was a very interesting place but that 1 miners job was a Very difficult one. Our ground tour consisted of seeing the hoist oom where we saw how we had been taken in and sut of the mine, the generator and core samples. Ne also took a walk over to the old mine and were nformed how yester-years pick and shovel methods vad been improved. We then left the mine and went to the Zenmac Mill where we saw the same rock we had seen taken sut of the mine crushed, separated (copper and zinc) dried and ready to be sent to the USA for refinement. All grade 12 found the tour very interesting and appreciated the opportunity to see it. We would like to thank all those who made the trip possible expecially our supervisor Mr. K. McLeod.
