PAGE 18 KINSMEN HELD SUCCESSFUL FIELD DAY The parade from the town square to the ball park on July Ist Kinsmen field day, was led by a spirited bugle band from Marathon followed by costumed children and this year a covey of motorcycles. The judges, Allan Cataford, of Corunna, Ont.; Patrick Ried, M.P. of Rainy River and Harold Sylvan of Calgary, awarded costume prizes as follows: Tri cycles - Cathy Campbell, Freddie Kusmic, Bicycl es ~ Diane Dietrich, Karen Goodmurphy; Original - Debra Fadden, Leonard and Barbara Duffy - first; Kenvin Scott and Darlene Fummerton - second. Comic - Freddie Figliomeni- Ist, Kathy Mulligan, second; Decorated prams --- Linda Ross - Ist, Maureen McGrath second. The races were arranged by Arnold O'Keefe, Mike Cosgrove, and Dom. Figliomeni winners being: - Prize money to all four, five and six year olds boys - Lawrence McParland, Bill Campbell, Ken Seidel; Girls - Melody Ukrainec, Debbie Seidel, and Rose Kushnieryk. Nine and ten boys - Bob Smilski, Reynor Wertz; Gordon Sly. Girls - Gladys Wertz, Shirley Ross, and Barbara Glad. Eleven and twelve - Boys - Werner Wertz, David Wertz, Kevin Mullins, and Brent Kushnieryk (tied). Girls - Rae Sisson, Bryar McKenzie, and Sylvia Wertz.Thirteen and fourteen - boys - Bill Smilsky, Kim Gellert, Bill . Fadden and Ed Boon. Girls - Carol Ferland, Elma Cenerelli, Linda Sullivan. AMBULANCE=NURSING BRIGADE INSPECTED The fourteenth annual inspection of Schreiber A/N Division, St. John Ambulance, was preceded by a dinner in the United Church Hall when Dorothy Rummery, presided. Grace and benediction were given by Mrs. Saima Willoughby, the toast to the Order of St. John by Mrs. Helen Dooley and to the Queen by Corp. Michael Kulmatycki. Mrs. Rummery introduced Col. H. Lawlor Brown, Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Provincial Head- quarters, Toronto who commended the Division on their fine record, congratulated Mrs. Helen Jartus Corps Staff Office on the good order in which he found the audited books, and Mrs. Helen Dooley, secretary on her excellent minutes. Mrs. Rummery conveyed the regrets of padre R.J. TERRACE BAY NEWS JULY 9, 1969 S. Inshaw and town councillor W.R. Bray of Terrace Bay who were unable to attend the occasion. Reeve F.V. Harness expressed the town's apprecia- tion of the work carried on by the Division in training recently the ambulance drivers, in offering various courses to the public, attending public gatherings to offer first aid when required and, in particular, in hav~ ing trained personnel now when the town is without a doctor. W.P. Burnell, St. Johy, Provincial Staff Officer, of Sault Ste. Marie, said it was always a pleasure to meet the active Schreiber Division, and brought. greetings from the newly-formed Division in Geraldto who just had their Ist annual inspection. Mrs. Jartus brought good wishes from the staff of- ficers unable to attend, and Mrs. Mary Shack, - District Commissioner, White Sand Lake Girl Guides also spoke briefly in appreciation of the work carried on by the Schreiber Division. Mrs. Agnes Bryson was pianist for the occasion and Mrs. Ann Banning proposed the vote of thanks to the « U.C .W. who had catered for the dinner. Following the dinner the group adjourned ts a public meeting in the town hall where the general salute was. taken by Col. Brown and demonstrations of First Aid given by Mrs. Helen Dooley, Corp. Kulmatycki, Mrs. Ann Banning, Mrs. Saima Willoug by and Miss Dorothy Harrison, with Sandy Dennison as the casulty.. Corp. Kulmatycki showed the film Signal 30 filmed by the Ohio State Police at the scene of highway accidents, the dead and maimed victims almost af! the result of failing to obey ordinary traffic signs. Col. Brown presented Priory Votes of Thanks to Mrs. Althea Graham, Reg. N. Nursing Officer of the Division, Mrs. Saima Willoughby a Charter Mem - ber, Mrs. Hilda Relph and Reeve F.V. Harness. A group of Girl Guides and their leaders from Terrace Bay, were presented with certificates, it being remarked they are the first in the area to com- plete three courses - First Aid, Home Nursing and Child Care, with the added prestige of having all who began the course complete them. Their instruc- tors were Mrs. Carolyn Lambert and Mrs. Alice Chepelski, Reg. Nurses, and Ben Lapenskie, of the Forestry Department. Col. Brown congratulated the Division on their demonstrations, commended the Division on the duty F hours, managed at a lower rate than the Provincial average.
