JUNE 12,1969 Kleenex Mill - cont'd from page 1... by March 1971 The new mill is a reflection of the Company's con- }- tinuing policy of expansion and development in Can- ada to meet the increasing demand for its products. Mr. Carruthers said the Huntsville site was chosen after intensive studies which indicated the availabil- ity of competent people to run the mill. Other con- siderations were because of its proximity to adequate supplies of fuel, water and convenient transportation facilities. The Company's Central Engineering group located at the Toronto Rexdale Plant is responsible for the overall design of the mill, with the detailed design work being carried out under sub-contract. Mr. Carruthers said the 100 - ton - a - day Kleen- ex tissue mill will incorporate the most up-to-date quality control equipment and described the manu- facturing process as hygenic in all respects. "Modern technology will permit the design of a mill that is both esthetic and functional," he stated. "The effluent disposal works are of most modern design and will satisfy exacting criteria relative to water disposal ." The raw material for the mill's production will be supplied in the form of pulps from the Company's mill operations at Terrace Bay and Kapuskasing. Some pulp may be purchased from outside sources . The mill is expected to contribute an estimate $500,000 to the local economy in salaries and wages and will be one of the largest employers of skilled labor in the region. It will also be a large purchaser of goods and ser- vices with estimated annual purchases totalling more than $6 million. The mill will consume annually 38 1/2 million kilowatt hours of Hydro power ard more than 1 3/4 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Mr. Carruthers paid tribute to the excellent co-op- eration received from the Ontario Government and the various departments concerned, as well as local authorities, in the planning stages of the project.
