TOWN HALL NIGHT - cont'd from front page by both-the Kiwanis Club and the Terrace Ray Chamber of Com--- merce. The presence of quite a number of Schreiber residents was, perhaps, only attri¥utable to their interest in the Schreiber candidates to the Lake Superior Divisional school . Board who were on the platform but could presage the shape of things to come if regional government as purpotiiied in the Hardy report should come about. ; Master of Ceremonies for the evening and president of the Chamber of Commerce D. Rafalant opened the meeting shortly after 7 p.m. by inviting the candidates to the platform, wel- coming the audience and reading the rules of procedure which included a time limit for each speech. First to be heard were '1. Chisholm and T. Dorland, both of whom were elected by acclemation by Terrace Bay public school supporters to the Lake Superior Divisional Boord of Education. The former has served 6 years on the Terrace Bay High School Board and the latter has served on the Public School Board, lately as chairman. Both dedicated themselves' to work in the best interests of students and taxpayers, and the latter while questioning the operation of the reorganized district, with probably higher costs, felt that a positive position should be taken at the start with a view to obtain- ing increased grants. ; Five of the nine candidates from whom separate school sup- porters must elect. three next Monday, now spoke. In order of appearance, they were Mrs. Marg Godin of Schreiber, Mr, J. Kennedy of Terrace Bay, Mr. B. Lapenskie of Terrace Bay, Dr. B. MeDonald of Terrace Bay and Mr. A. Speziale of Schreiber. Unable tc make an appearance were the three candidates from Manitouwadge and M.J. MeGrath of Schreiber. Each gave his or her reasons for seeking a plece on the Divisional School Board and urged separate school supporters to get out and vote so that this district will have representation on the Board. Gne of the evenings best presentations was given by A. Speziale, ~ @ teacher at Holy Angels School in Schreiber, who asked for an honest vote on merit of candidates, regardless of geography This points up-the fact that Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Mani- touwadge Separate School Supporters must choose only three from the nine names appearing on the ballots next Monday. Marking a ballot with any more than three X's will spoil the ballot. First candidate for Council to spesk was A. Allen, a new- comer to local politics, who felt that four merchants on council did not truly represent all the residents of Terrace Bay. Incumbents, W.R. Bray, J. Caccamo and D. Desrosiers spoke of accomplishments during their 2 years on Council and asked support to continue projects already started. Each dedicated himself to serving in the best (Cont'd-on page' 5A)' , The Department of National Health and Welfare released the first report of Tar-Nicotine study as fo'lows: a table o% tam and. nicotine levels in cigarettes sold in Canada, enables health concerned smokers to select their brands was released by Honorable John Munro, Mirister of National Health and Weifare. The result of a contimuing study being sarried out by the department by Dr. W.F. Forbes, University of Waterloo, the report based on tests carried out on cigarettes purchased throughout Canada during the first half of 1968. Details concerning the 64 different types of cigarettes will be given in a forthcoming article by Dr. Forbes and his colléagues in the seclentific journal 'Cancer?. (See Page 3A)
