TERRACE BAY NEWS Town Hall Night - cont'd from 2A 'of residents of Terrace Bay. Re-iterating his faith in Terrace Bay, J. Caccamo urged Terrace Bay voters to 'show the North Shore that we are not apathetic by recording the highest vote ever. Candidates for Reeve appeared next. W. Adamo asked for support on past experience and clarified | false impressions which developed during his last term as Reeve. He spoke on education, re-assessment and its bearing on future taxes. He feels he is capable of running the affairs of the town and would be pre- pared to present a vigorous approach on behalf of residents of Terrace Bay when dealing with governmen agencies. Candidate P. Romanuk said he is concerned with the happenings in the town and the complete. disre- spect (by some) for law and order. He belives a publi works program which will be of immediate benefit and for future development, should be instituted. He men- tioned the need for a new fire truck and adjustment in rate of pay for the Volunteer Fire Dept. He feels that future councils should be in a position to face amalga~ mation when it comes. Leaving Council after three years, R. Sinotte enters the race for Reeve with no platform but pledged him- self to continue working hard for Terrace Bay residents as Reeve as he has done for the last three years on Council. He mentioned his recent appointment as a "director to the N'Western Ontario Municipal Associa- tion on which he will serve for two years, a first time appointment for anyone on the North Shore. Incumbent W.E. Cavanaugh gave a rapid resume of accomplishments during his 2 year term in office, cit- ed his past experience and service with various organ- izations. He said we should be prepared to meet all moves made by the government and proposed that a Search and Rescue Unit be set up in Terrace Bay. Last to appear on stage was candidate for Council, W. Farrell, just returned from a trip east. While having no platform as such, he said that changes are expected, both internally and externally and that members of municipal council will have a definite role to play in the district. He said those on council must be familiar with all phases and be prepared to face problems and grasp opportunities as they present themselves. A fairly lively question and answer period followed with the most emphasis on future development of Lakeview Drive. A direct answer was not given to the first of these questions by Incumbent W.E. Cav- anaugh, who said the question could be better answer ed by Mill Manager J. Ferrier. The latter accepted the opportunity to point out that the company are willing to sell these lots - quoting a very reasonable price per lot - and pointing out that the Townshi would reap the benefit of future taxes on the property The road allowance or street already belongs to the town so it seems to be a question of who provides - services such as sewer, water and electricity. Hondas, sidewalks, teenagers, curfew and dogs, were all topics of question. Some were answered satisfactorily, others were not, but the whole tone of | the meeting was good. All candidates urged voters to get out and vote next Monday.
