OCTOBER 17, 1968 P. Plummer honored - cont'd from page 14 Jim Gray, and Harvey Carmiachel all offered con- gratulations from the O .R.T. and Hobden Spikula on behalf of the Car Men. Besides his wife were daughters Myrna Rae, Mrs. R. Tozer, with her husband and children. The day ended with a dinner served in their present home at Walker Lake for relatives and old friends. Pringle, who was born in Schreiber, began his service with the CPR in September 1923, cutting pipes with the B. and B. department when the round- house was being rebuilt after burning down. He re- calls that he and his 'gang' were dubbed Meslar's Bears, for sufficient reason he adds with a chuckle. From there he went on to the usual gangs, and in May 1926 went to work as a telegrapher, his first shift being at Navilus. And well he remembers that first day, for despatcher Joe Campbell, a noted wag immediately called him to say he had a 500 word message for him to send - and poor "Pring" just barely mastered his dots-and-dashes ! He also remembers with affection and loyalty, his first chief - J.A. Lindsay, whose instructions were both explicit and colorful, but his defence of 'his men' unfailing. Pringle worked all the stations between the Lake- head and as far east as Azilda, just west of Sudbury. Now, some 16 of these stations are closed. Many messages from far away places were receiv- ed during the day, among these, one from Ralph Miller in Tauranga, New Zealand, who has been gone for some years, and still remembered 'Pring's' retirement day. Mr. and Mrs. Plummer will visit their daughter in Port Arthur for a month and then go on to make their home at the west coast. MICHAEL REID, PUBLIC HEALTH INSPECTOR Michael Reid, Public Health In- spector, who was recently posted in Schreiber for the Thunder Bay Health Unit.
