ORE ee CHURCH BOARD REPORTS ON PLANS A very successful meeting of the board of St. Andrew's United Church was held on Thursday, Octo ber 3rd. Seven special committees met and reported to the board regarding various activities being plan- ned for the congregation during this Fall and Winter. A women's exercise and talk group will shortly be started and a further Tow-Talk meeting on the topic of education will be prepared. A canvas will be carried out during the month of October to strengthe the financial resources of the church. Following the meeting, Jack Stokes, M.P.P. for Thunder Bay Riding, addressed the group with special references to Bill 44 and the new district board taxation of | church property and the matter of possible extension of the provincial grants to separate high schools. | As a result of the very interesting introduction by Mr. Stokes to the subject, a lively discussion was followed. Many areas of concern for the church as a fellowship came to the floor and action in some of these is foreseen. Mr. Stokes was most sincerely thanked by the board members for his time, concern -- and clearly expressed opinions and the evening ende with coffee and doughnuts being served. a A.C.W. PLANS COUNTRY FAIR AND PATTY TEA a ER a et nem A country Fair and Patty tea was planned by the Anglican Church Women for November 2nd, at their regular monthly meeting. The event will be held in the town hall and will feature bazaar tables of novel ties, fine sewing, knitted goods, aprons and many other articles particularly suitable for Christmas gifts. There will be counters of home baking and freezer foods, a fish pond for children, and a furnish ed doll house which will be raffled. A donation was made to the Shingwauk Mission School in Sault Ste. Mr. West is in Terrace Bay Hospital . 5 The Schreiber Terrace Bay Liberal Association will sponsor a Keith Penner social evening on October 11 in the Schreiber Town Hall. The Gaynotes from Red Rock will provide the music for dancing from 8-1 and Mr. Penner will visit informally. A cordial in- vitation is offered to the public from Schreiber and Terrace Bay and other communities within the riding. During the afternoon, Mr. Penner will be available to answer questions and may be contacted through either Harold McParland in Schreiber or W.E. Cav- anaugh in Terrace Bay. nn EE U.C.W. WELCOMES NEW MEMBER LL : Mrs. W. Dukes was welcomed as a new member of the United Church Women by Mrs. W. Clemens, at their regular monthly meeting. Mrs. E.C. Prinselaar chose as a topic for the devo tional period, "What we (the UCW) do, more than others." Mrs. T. Whent reported plans were com- pleted to serve a wedding dinner on October 12th. After lengthy discussion, it was decided not to hold | the Thanksgiving dinner this year, but resume again ) next year. Members have catered for so many dinner engagements during the summer months they are tired and cannot undertake two dinners so close to each other. Mrs. A. Niemi, sewing convenor ,.reported buying a lot of material to prepare for the bazaar and asked for donations of 25¢ each to pay for thread braid, etc. She also said quilting will soon begin.
