Last Thanksgiving holiday weekend, 17 of the 27 fatal accidents occurred af- ter dark and another two at dusk. The Ontario Dept. of Transport advises motorists to slow down when the sun goes down. Stopping distance should never be greater than the distance in which you can see clear- ly. To avoid glare from approaching headlights, don't look directly at them. And, remember, it is courteous AND required by law to switch to low beams when meeting or following other cars. OCTOBER IS HOME AND SCHOOL MONTH The month of October has been proclaimed as Home and School Month throughout Canada, to encourage TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 parents to take an interest in their child's school and their child's education. Educators and parents agree that the two ccbihagt influences in the life of any child are his home and his school. Children benefit directly when co-opera tion and understanding prevail between their parents and teachers. This results in both being more effec- tive in.their own teaching area. There is a great need for more active support, and a need for more parents and teachers interested in children and youth. Start in October to attend your local Home and School Association.
