PRESS RELEASE FROM SCHREIBER LIBERAL ASSOC. As president of the Schreiber Liberal Association, | feel that, irregardless of which way the election might go, | should answer W.A.M. of Schreiber for such an attack on Keith Penner's free choice of association and inalienable right to belong to the party of his desire. Other parts of the letter can be questioned, but | will confine my criticism to the above. May | also take this opportunity to question the ethics of those who distributed hate literature in our area during the Campaign. | firmly believe that those in the Conservative Party truly think they have the answers for Canada. | also believe that those in the N.D.P. believe their approach is right. We in the Liberal Party, disagree with the conservative attitudes of the Con- servative Party, and cannot agree with the socialis=} tic ideas of the N.D.P., but by the same token, | have to accept the fact that the other parties do not agree with the liberal ideas of the Liberal party So what is most important, and all too often for- gotten by all of us, is that while we have the right to critize the other parties, we should not attack the individuals of the parties. Bishop Sheen has said, "We should hate Communism but love the Communist. " Therefore, let us stand up for the ideals we be- lieve in, but recognize the right of our fellow man tohis ideals. H.J. McParland Mr. A.B. Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Gordon of Sch- reiber, received his B.A. degree (English major) at the Lake- head University Con- vocation Ceremonies which were held on June 8th. He was one of 319 graduates presented with deg- rees and diplomas ' during the ceremony which took place for the first time on the Univer- sity campus. Mr. Gordon was a member of the High School staff this year and will be back to teach again in the Fall . U.S. MARINES ENJOY TERRACE BAY NEWS We had a nice letter from Michael Evans-Smith, former Terrace Bay resident, now with the U.S. Marines in San Diego, California, in which he says , he looks forward each week to reading the local news. .He also said the men in his barracks get a big kick out of reading the paper. We saw Michael not too long ago, when he attend ed the annual inspection of the Cadets and Wrenettes and intended at that time to draw attention to his very real uniform and the display uniforms worn by the local corps. PUBLIC WELCOME TO UNVEILING CEREMONY ON SATURDAY, JUNE 29th The public are cordially invited to attend the unveiling ceremony being held at Centennial Park in Terrace Bay com- mencing at 11 a.m. D.S.T. on Saturday, June 29th, 1968. ELECTION FOOTNOTES As we go to press (election day) it is still too early to predict what party will run our government, for the next four years. We do, however, have a few comments to make on the arrangements made to publicize important (at least to the voters in this district) details on voting procedure. No notice regarding advance poll was given to the News. We received calls from voters who, for various reasons, would be unable to vote on June 25th. One party who phoned was told there was only one hour left to 'get into Schreiber before the poll closed. , No notice re location of polls or time of voting was re- ceived. Are these just other instances of the indifference shown to this part of North wéstern Ontario?
