Mr. and Mrs. David Nesbitt went to | ondon to get their daughter, Muriel, who has just completed her year at Western University, and together they went on to visit relatives in Carlton Place, and Mr. Nesbitt' sisters - Mrs. Tom Sullivan and Mrs. Helen Garmendiaz, in New York. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harness are the former's sister and her husband - Mr. and Mrs. Harold Devlin of Carp, Ontario. Mrs. Bill Stefurak, Mrs. D'Arcy McGuire, Mrs. Harry Shack and Father J.M, Cano are attending the Catholic Women's League convention in Fort Frances . Mr. and Mrs. Gary Drake have just returned from Winnipeg where they attended the funeral of Mr. Drake's father . STUDENTS PLACE SECOND IN COMPETITION All eleven competitors entered by Schreiber high school in the gymnastic meet in Manitouwadge on Saturday placed in the event. Barbara Stefurak won the top female competitor trophy. Schreiber High School placed second in total school standings, with a total of 73 points. Manitouwadge placed first with a total of 99 points. Terrace Bay and Marathon placed third and fourth, respectively. In the individual events, Bill Drake placed 2nd on the parallel bars, Barb Stefurak placed Ist on the uneven bars and 2nd on the box horse; Mary Spez- iale placed Ist on the box horse; Stan Spadoni plac- ed 2nd on the box horse; Mike Spadoni placed 3rd on the box horse; Bob Hiller placed 2nd on the pommel horse; Alan LeBlanc placed Ist in the tumb- ling; Dan McGrath - 4th in tumbling; Dale Sisson Ath on the balance beam; Nancy Spillane - 2nd on the balance beam and Shirley Winters - 4th in floor exercises . W.G. Furlonger, executive secretary of the East Thunder Bay Tuberculosis Association was in Toronto last week attending a convention of the Ontario Tuberculosis Association. MAY_16, 1968 FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR EARL HANDEL The funeral of the late Earl Douglas Handel, * whose. death occurred in Port Arthur hospital on May 3rd, was conducted in St. Andrew's United Church in Schreiber by Rev. E.C. Prinselaar, on May 6th. Mrs. Lester McCuaig was organist and the hymns chosen were Unto The Hills, and | Have An Anchor. Pall bearers were Bill Weaver, Gerry Fisher, Wally Richardson, Fmmett Holland, Russell Weaver, and George Burns, the latter two from Terrace Bay, and all former companions of Earl's in the Schreiber CPR Car Shop . Interment was in Schreiber cemetery . Mr. Handel is survived by one brother, Jack of Schreiber, and two sisters, Adeline (Mrs. R -H- Sheedy) of Pettawawa, and Margaret (Mrs. John Spillane) of Schreiber. He was predeceased by his mother in 1932 and his father in 1949. He was a member of the Railway Carmen of America and was employed as a carman until his retirement on Jan- vary Ist, 1968, being the youngest man, at 42, to be pensioned by the C.P.R. Attending from out of town was his sister Mrs. Sheedy of Pettawawa. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE HOLDS ANNUAL DINNER IN SCHREIBER The 13th annual dinner of Schreiber St. John Ambulance, combined bridgade, was held recently in St. John's Church hall. Grace was said by Rev. R. J. Inshaw; padre and hon- orary president, and Rev. J. M. Cano. Mrs. Dorothy Rummery, pre- sident, was master of ceremon- jes. Toasts were given by corps staff officer Helen Jartus, and Mrs. Helen Dooley. "Mrs. Earl Morgan, supt. of nursing for the Ontario St. John, provincial headquatrers, Tcron- Marie, were present from out of town rs with Mr. and Mrs. R. Bray of Terrace Bay. honored guests were local people. Mes. Morgan paid tribute to the 1,100 public duty hours given by the Schreiber unit and the 50 graduates in child car¢ course taught by St. John. She also described the new uniforms as '"'more feminine and congratulated Schreiber -- for having a "real live nurse' Nipigon and Marathon. Other brief speakers were Mr. Bray of Terrace Bay, Rev. Inshaw, J. D. Bromley, CPR superintendent, Father Cano, Mrs. Doris Gauthier and Miss Heather Crowhurst.. Later in the evening the group attended the St. John annual inspection at the town hall by Mrs. Morgan and Mr. Brownell. It was followed by a demon- stration of the spine board re- scue equipment.
