PROGRAM PRESENTED BY CONCERT BAND The Terrace Bay Concert Band presented their _annual concert in the High School Auditorium last Thursday night, under the direction of Mrs. Ellen Hodgkiss. Mr. Fred Soughton was the Master of Ceremonies. The Band opened the concert with Sons of the Golden West, by Kenneth L. Farrell. Henry Purcell, a British composer, who died in 1695, left benind him a legacy of music in many forms - vocal, instrumental, secular, and sacred. His music had a distinguished style, sweeping melo- dies, clean cut harmony, vital rhythm. Arranged by Joseph Jenkins, former staff member of the U.S. Army Chorus, the band presented "Purcell Portraits." Typical of the Lawrence Welk sound, the band, featuring the clarinets of Bill Farrell, Jack Caccamo and Bill Megraw,. played "Waltzing Clarinets. " Next with a March along with Mitch tempo, a- rranged by Jimmy Carroll, | (Cont'd on page 4) COUNCIL QUOTES A By-Law regulating the sale and setting off of fireworks was reviewed at the regular meeting of Terrace Bay Council on Tuesday night. Reeve Cavanaugh was in the chair with three councillors present. The By-Law reads that no person shall sell fireworks without a permit issued proving such dis- play, nor shall anyone set off fireworks without a proper permit. A $300.00 fine is the penalty for infraction of the rules. Reeve Cavanaugh suggested that the usual dis- play of fireworks take place on July Ist. This will be under proper supervision. Minutes were read by Clerk Hanley, and adopt- ed as read. A letter will be sent to all business establishments on the Plaza, requesting that there be a spring clean-up - all papers, etc., to be removed from the premises, and not allowed to blow around, thus disfiguring the property of others.
