MAY 2, 1968 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE |5 RED CROSS SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR'S REQUALIFICATION A two day Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety | Instructor's Requalification will be held Friday, May |0th, commencing at 7.00 p.m. and Saturday, May llth, 1968 in the Port Arthur Y.M.-Y.W.C.A. 350 Arthur Street, Port Arthur. Applicants from any community or private agency conducting or planning to conduct a Swimming and Water Safety Programme will be welcomed. Applicants should be |7 years of age or over and possess a Red Cross Instructor's Certificate. Persons accepted on the course will be required to have a statement of good health from their physician. There is no fee for the qualification, however each applicant should have an up-to-date instructor's kit at a cost of $ 2.00. Applications are available at either the Port Arthur or Fort "William Parks and Recreation Committee or by phoning Mr. Peter Krystalowich, Water Safety Chairman, 345-2304. Photo by M.Lundberg PENSIONS AT 66 IN JANUARY NEXT An extra 42,000 persons in Ontario will become | eligible for the universal Old Age Security pension in January, 1968, and so should be making applica tion at this time. These are the people who were born in 1902 and who will reach 66 by the end of this calendar.year. Canadian citizenship is not required for eligibility. Because of this an in- crease in the cost of living, the monthly pension is now $ 76.50. Mr..J.G.-Parsons, Regional Director of Old Age Security for Ontario, stated that applications from persons born in the year 1902 have been very slow coming in to the Ontario Regional Office. Less than 6000 or |4 percent were received by the end of March. _ Old Age'Security Applications, along with an explanatory booklet, may be obtained from any Post Office, and should be sent to the Regional Director of Old Age Security, P.O. Box 6000, Station "Q", Toronto 7, Ontario. Since an applicant must prove age, a birth or baptismal certificate should be sent in with the application. If such documents cannot be submitted, the application should be completed and sent to the Regional Office with a note giving the reason. The Regional Office will then assist the applicants to find other evidence of age. A donation was made to the Cancer Society. Mrs. Gloria Mullins agreed to convene the-new project - compiling a new cookbook. A letter of appreciation was received from the C.W.L.'s adopted family in. India. Monthly and annual reports were read by the treasurer and all standing conveners: Mrs. Ann Banning, spiritual, stated the Rosary for World Peace would be recited daily throughout the month of May; Mrs. lila Morrow, education, thanked the Brownies and their leaders for books donated to the Parish Library. There were my present and the draw prize, donated by Mrs. eorge Lemieux, was won by Mrs. loyce Jarosz.
